[00:00:02] Welcome to the Brunswick Group Therapy Podcast with Lucas and Kimberly. Are you ready? Alright, episode number 86, is that right? Hello, is this thing on? Yes, 86. Oh my gosh, the raw unedited version. Here we go. Ready? I am. So if you take the number 86 and turn it around, what do you get? 68.
[00:00:33] That is the number of years the oldest business in Brunswick has been around. How do you like that? Segway. So congratulations to Vicki, I'm going to butcher your last name, but I'm going to try it anyway, Michelski, who is the owner of Brunswick Plaza Barbershop. And the business was started by her father and then taken over by her around 1990 or so.
[00:01:01] And so that is makes them the oldest business in Brunswick. So now they're celebrating 68 years. Wow. So here's to many more you guys. Congratulations. Congratulations. Yeah. Uh, one of the newer businesses in Brunswick, Gamers Lair, uh, has a special deal going on for students. You can bring them your report card and earn free game time at their, um, at their spot.
[00:01:26] One hour of game time for each A, a half hour of game time for each B and a one day pass of game time for straight A's. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Those guys, I was going to say those could really add up. So if you're a gamer and, uh, you're also a, uh, A or B student, stop up there with your report card and, uh, hook you up with some free time. Well, even if you're not a gamer, you want to try it out or something. That's free game time, right? Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
[00:01:57] All right. All right. Looks like you cheated on donut land. What the heck? I know. I asked for their forgiveness. I wrote an open letter of apology. I was just running errands and they just sounded really good. And the light was on that said hot now, but I didn't get the hot now ones. I got filled ones and I don't know, just not donut land. So my apologies. Yes. I cheated. Yeah. Don't do that.
[00:02:24] I can't say I'll never stray again because that's, that's some pretty big shoes to fill, but I know. Anyway. And then while I was out eating food, you were doing the responsible stuff as usual. Tell us about this. Uh, you went to the, did you go to the meeting? No, I didn't go to the meeting. Ah, but you did some research on it. Yeah. Well, I read the news article. Probably.
[00:02:52] Brunswick councilman, uh, Lambert proposed, uh, a levy to improve fire police service and recreation center at a, uh, open. I don't know if it was like maybe an open house or a meeting, but he had, uh, residents gathered to, um, gain insight on whether or not they'd be interested. And, uh, surprisingly, a lot of the, uh, residents had a positive opinion on the matter. Nice.
[00:03:19] So I don't know what the next steps are, but, uh, it was outlined pretty well, you know, where, uh, they would add a couple of police, a couple of fire, a couple, um, service department and street department people. And, uh, I don't know if it said expand the rec center or build a new one. Um, but it said it would cost people about $120, uh, for every $100,000 of their home property value. Yeah. I have no skin in this game. So you tell me how you feel about it.
[00:03:50] Um, I, I wish they would break it up individually. Um, I do four levies, one for fire, one for police, one for service and one for rec. But, uh, you know, I think that, uh, I think that sounds like a lot more work. I don't know. We shall see. Well, people's people may vote differently too. Right. Right. Now like that. So interesting. Very interesting. So we'll see where that goes. We'll be following that. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, what else we got?
[00:04:20] Um, well, speaking of, uh, Councilman Brandon Lambert, he also announced, um, that he was going to be running for County commissioner. That's exciting. Did you see that? Yeah. Yeah. Did you see that? And then he also gave an update on the dispensary, which, uh, is it a non update update? Yeah. Yeah. He, uh, he wrote some legislation and it's, uh, waiting to be heard at the planning and zoning committee. So we'll see what that looks like.
[00:04:49] That's seems to be a little bit, what you call it split down, split down the middle. I guess there's one greater than the other, but, um, we'll see where that goes. So I'm not going to, again, I got no skin in the game. So what do you think? Dispensary or no? Yay or nay. Yeah. Yeah. I don't see why not. I would like to see some numbers. I mean, what if it paid for like a rec center or something, you know? I know it's probably not going to, but half of it. I don't know.
[00:05:19] I don't know how that money splits up. Well, it looks like the comments in the group, most, most residents want it anyways. So even if it just made as much money for the city as a laundromat or something like that, um, why not? I don't think it's gonna, I don't think it's gonna. Are you censory to a laundry? Yeah. Well, I mean, I don't think it's going to bring more crime or I don't think it's going to, uh, you know, be a negative blight on the city. You know, they have, uh. Agreed.
[00:05:48] They have their own laws and stuff that they have to follow. Um, but we'll see. Yeah. Well, maybe, uh, maybe the Thompson will pick up on that. So he doesn't want to, I don't know who knows. But, um, anyway, what else we got going on? Uh, the red onions got a big calendar, pretty full came out, right? Mm hmm. Yep. They got, uh, Tavern Trap Murder Mystery, the, um, annual turkey fry.
[00:06:16] They got some, uh, music with Ken Urim, along with, uh, some other daily food specials and their boozy bingo that they frequently have. So check this out and, uh, stop into the red onion. Good food too. Yep. Oh gosh. We've got, um, lots and lots of events coming from parks, rec, um, parks and recreation, uh, upcoming events, January, February, March, and April.
[00:06:42] It looks like it's something every single month or every single. Yeah. Every single month. Oh my gosh. Um, so the splash party was that postponed or did they go ahead and have that? It was postponed. Yeah. Because the, it was too cold. Yeah. The, uh, the rec center pool must've frozen over. Oh, there's my ice skating rink. I've been wanting. There you go. We'll just make lemonade out of lemons. Um, so anyway, look for a date for a splash party to be rescheduled. Uh, just check out their Facebook page.
[00:07:11] I think they did put one up there. Um, in fact, uh, in February, they're having a disco party with Funkology. And if you've never heard Funkology, they are amazing. Uh, disco dance party at the rec. Come get your groove on two to four. And he's again, our family events. Just the beginning, they said in March, the Chardon polka band is coming back, which you saw them last time, right? Oh yeah. They were amazing. You know, the, it's polka, but, uh, they play popular tunes.
[00:07:41] So it was very, very entertaining. Might have to, uh, check that one out in March. So, and then in April, the end of winter blues with blue lunch. Um, your favorite blue character, I think is that? Um, oh no, it's a concert. Sorry. Blue will not be there. Don't go. If you're looking for blue. So from two to four, April 6th, check out their Facebook page for all the information. All these events are free by the way. Yeah.
[00:08:11] Yeah. Um, so they're doing some great things over there at the rec, changing it up and good job. Taylor and the parks rec and a community. Um, there's a committee now that does put some of these things together and councilwoman Christie Piper's on that. So we thank them for all their hard work. Yep. And, um, one more thing going on over there, right? Yeah. Also in March, they have a little darling dance.
[00:08:39] Um, that's March 29th tickets are $12 for members and $17 for non members. Uh, that's a daddy daughter dance. Uh, the evening includes dinner, dancing, desserts, photos, and a treat bag. So, uh, they're doing that the end of March. And then, um, so that's cool. And they also have the pool schedule out. So, uh, you can go swimming. Nice.
[00:09:08] I don't, uh, know if I could deal with that right now, but. Oh, too cold. And they're selling, uh, exercise equipment. So, um, they put, uh, you know, anytime the city sells something they no longer need, they have to put it on a website. It's forbidding, you know, that's so they don't sell it to, uh, you know, a councilman's brother or something like that. It makes it fair for everybody.
[00:09:35] And they put, uh, 10 exercise bikes on, um, the website. Wow. And, uh, it looks like they're going for 50 bucks a piece. These are, uh, these are legit websites or not legit websites, legit, uh, spin bikes. So if you're interested in one, I think you can pick it up pretty cheap. Those, uh, bids go through January 30th. Oh my goodness. That's, that's a deal though. Yeah.
[00:10:04] Not that I'm an expert in exercise equipment or anything, but, uh, you know, they're made sturdy for, I was going to say commercial use, but I guess that's right. Commercial use. Yeah. So. All right. What else we got? Well, let's head over to Roger at Houndstown. We still have Mitchell. Uh, nobody adopted him last week. So let's hear about him again. It's got that awesome face too. All right. Tell us about him, Roger. Hey guys. It's Roger from Houndstown.
[00:10:33] Uh, this week we do have Mitchell back with us from Brea and a rescue. He's a little over one. He's a male beagle terrier mix. He is a smaller guy about 25 pounds or so. Um, has been doing great last week and this week, uh, with the various dogs that he's been hanging out with. He's great with dogs. He's great with humans. We thought we had him. Uh, uh, we thought we had found his forever home this past week, but, uh, we have not yet.
[00:11:02] So we did ask to have him back again this week. So that's he, since he's such a good dog and hopefully with your guys' help, you can help us spread the word and we can help find him his forever home. So if anybody's interested in learning more about Mitchell, would like to do a meet and greet, come in and meet him, um, introduce your dogs to him, that type of stuff. Feel free to give us a call here at Houndstown. Our number is 330-460-3052. Um, we'd love to, uh, have you come in and check him out.
[00:11:30] Also do remember, you can head over to the Brea Animal Rescue site to see all of the dogs and cats that they have up for adoption. And with this cold week that we've had, um, do remember we're a great source, um, of, uh, daily activity for your pups. We offer full interactive date, doggy daycare every day. We also offer overnight boarding if you need a place for your dog to stay while you go out of town. Um, if you've not been here and would like to come in and check us out, please give us a call as well.
[00:11:58] And we can arrange a meet and greet and we do give you your first day of doggy daycare free as well. So our number here again is 3 3 0 4 6 0 3 0 5 2. And hopefully we can find Mitchell his, uh, forever home this week. Take care. And we'll be back at you next week. All right. That's Mitchell. If you're interested in, uh, that, that young guy, give, uh, Roger at Houndstown a call or bring an animal rescue. Now it's time to get into things to do in the 2 1 2.
[00:12:28] Right out of the gate. Uh, they are wrapping things up over at the Tangled Vine in the next week or so. Uh, so Grace and Gratitude Yoga is going to be having an event over there. Uh, let's see. Tomorrow night at 6 o'clock, a yoga and wine event. Again, that's at Tangled Vine by Grace and Yoga. Um, your chance to stop in and say thank you to Jen and her family for, um, three good years.
[00:12:57] They did a good run through, through a lot of, uh, stuff, shall we say. I just brought the Oktoberfest back a couple times and all that kind of stuff. So again, yoga and wine with Crystal over at the Tangled Vine, uh, tomorrow night at 6. Yep. And, uh, also Friday, tomorrow night at 6 is the live music with the Greenview Band over at Red Wagon Farm.
[00:13:22] They're a 90s cover band and, uh, they'll help get the brewery rockin' uh, with the four four paws brewing at Red Wagon. Yep. Bands aren't your thing and you're more like, uh, let's go back into the gamer type stuff. January 24th from 8 o'clock until the 25th at 8am. It's an all night D&D event. And that's going to be over at the Gamers Lair. Um, if you don't know where that is, it's in Subway Plaza on Laurel.
[00:13:49] Um, and 12 hours of RPG gaming fun, including a D&D tournament, uh, one shot campaigns, not the alcohol, video games, VR pool, VR pool darts, and our new rhythm station. Cost is only $30 for that 12 hour event. Soft drinks and light snacks are included with that. So if that's your jam, check them out, uh, over at Gamers Lair.
[00:14:19] Good stuff. Sounds like a fun, uh, all nighter. Yeah. I'm excited to do there, huh? Yeah. And then, uh, Saturday morning at 10 AM, friends of Medina County district library is having a $3 bag sale at the Brunswick library, getting rid of some books. Uh, that goes on till 2 PM and, uh, they'll provide a bag for you to fill it with as many, uh, books as you can for just $3. Very nice.
[00:14:46] We're going back over to, um, the tangled vine for playful poses. And that is going to be this Saturday at 10 30 AM. This looks like a mommy and me class, 45 minute class designed for families and children's ages four to 10. So it's not just mommy and me. It's, it could be daddy, whatever. It doesn't matter. Uh, the parents and kids will move, stretch and breathe together. Um, creating some memories while promoting physical and emotional wellbeing.
[00:15:15] So if you're interested in that, it's called playful poses. And again, grace and gratitude yoga over at the tangled vine on the 25th, 10 30 AM. Yep. And, uh, later that day, Saturday the 25th from six to 9 PM is kids night out. That's over at any O extreme games. Um, they've got all the events going on there, a bubble soccer, gel blaster, Gaga ball. Uh, they got their inflatables blown up.
[00:15:39] Glow in the dark, dodge ball, Ninja warrior, extreme corn hole, and so much more ages five and up. And, uh, it's just $10 for three hours. That's a good deal. That's a Saturday at six till 9 PM. Yeah. You can't play outside. Might as well find a spot to play inside. Yeah. We got told that this week, didn't we? By one of the posters. Yeah. Don't put your kids outside.
[00:16:05] Um, Saturday, this Saturday at seven o'clock, the eerie cats band, um, opens up the new year at the red wagon farm. It says, and again, it starts at seven. They go till 10. Check them out. They are, um, inviting you to come and kick off the season at red wagon farms for 2025. Fabulous year. These guys play eighties, nineties and two thousands, um, dance and rockets.
[00:16:34] So go and check out their craft beers and, uh, have some good food. Take a few friends along and, uh, get out of the house and it's so dreary and cold and nobody wants to go anywhere, but this is, this is, it looks like a good one. So the Saturday at seven red wagon farms. Yeah. And, uh, that same night at eight 30 PM is tarp over live at Manzo's. Uh, if you're ready for a good time, they've got you covered. Tarp is live rocking out at Manzo's Saturday at eight 30.
[00:17:06] Nice. And, um, if you could, uh, go ahead and do this one because it disappeared for some reason for me. Uh, we're heading back to grace and gratitude yoga Sunday morning. Um, from 10 30 AM till 11 30 AM. There's a tweens and teens with Brie, uh, yoga. It's a new yoga class designed specifically for young bodies and minds offering a welcoming space to move, breathe and connect.
[00:17:32] We're engaging, engaging flows, calming mindfulness techniques and moments of self-expression. This claps helps participants thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally. Hey, all right. Heading over to Hinkley. Now, um, we are going to happy dude bruise this Sunday at two o'clock. And that is going to be their second annual puzzles and pints. So this isn't your, uh, grandma's puzzle stuff.
[00:18:01] This is actually a competition. And they said they had such a good time last year. They're going to bring it on again. So bring a friend or two, um, and compete against other puzzlers. And they said, is that even a term? I don't know. It sounds good. So, um, you'll have two hours to complete a 500 piece puzzle. The winning team will take home a happy dudes brew t-shirt for each member and an Ohio craft beer puzzle. So you'll have to share the puzzle.
[00:18:31] It says, but, uh, bring your team over. They'll supply the puzzles. You just show up with your team and compete. So tour and, uh, puzzles and beer. So puzzles and pints Sunday at two. Yeah. And, uh, man, we got, uh, some other things down the road and, uh, we're going back to yoga, but this time it's over at the rec center. It's a beginner yoga, um, Hatha yoga and meditation.
[00:18:58] It's starting on Wednesdays at 6 30 PM with a new instructor, Judy classes begin February 5th and are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. So if you just want to. So if you just want to. And I like that it's in the evening too. So many times these are during the day and you can't, you can't go. So check that one out. Um, Debbie Hopkins Memorial 5k run for 2025.
[00:19:27] And registration is only $30 and that is going to take place Saturday, April 12th. Um, but of course you need to, uh, register ahead of time for these runs. Um, and race benefits Crestview elementary PTO and passionate educators incorporated. Race was started in memory of Debbie Hopkins, which who was a former teacher at Brunswick city schools. Um, and, um, Debbie was a special educator who meant so much to so many.
[00:19:56] And they've started this fun, um, run Memorial run in her honor. So check them out again, only $30 to register that Saturday, April 12th. Um, go to, um, I'm sure if you go to Crestview elementary Facebook page, um, you'll find it or just search for it on our page and you'll, um, it'll pop up. Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, they're raising funds for sound equipment and playground equipment this year.
[00:20:23] And, um, they're going to have, uh, the donut envy food truck raffle items, and hopefully the Medina County library book mobile there. It's going to be a fun time. They're also like, yeah, you don't have to run either. You can do a one mile walk and there there'll also be a kid's dash. So, and that'll take place at the school. So all that going on. Um, so make sure you, uh, get registered.
[00:20:49] Even if, like I said, you don't, you know, I don't do the run thing, but $30 registration fee, help them out, do a one mile walk or take the kids and let them blow off some steam with the dash. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, one last event we got going on before, uh, we'll get out of here. January 29th, they're doing a, um, thing over at Red Wagon Farm. You can't buy happiness, but you can rescue it.
[00:21:14] Uh, a dollar of every draft beer poured that day will go directly to Buckeye Mission and Sanctuary. So that's, uh, January 29th from four to 9 PM at Red Wagon Farm. Very nice. Very nice. Well, that's going to wrap it up. Episode number 86 for us is now on the books.
