[00:00:54] We are episode 155, it is August 12th and I brought a special guest. Hi, I'm Avery. This is my daughter Avery, it is our back to school special. I'll be going back to school next week. I know the bus stop just loaded up into the app so it changed a little bit so I know parents are looking for a check that out and all kinds of things. And she'll be joining us today for episode 155. Yeah.

[00:01:24] So let's get right into it. And we are two minutes early because you're not early, you're late. Yeah. Ah, here's this post. They're talking about, and I like this idea, the roundabout on Laurel and Maxwell is ahead of schedule and it's expected to be done in August, I'm sorry, September instead of November. So that'll be the first roundabout in Brunswick.

[00:01:54] There's two other ones coming later. There's no date. I think it's a couple years from now in Brunswick Hills on 303 down by substation at Marks. But I like this idea.

[00:02:05] Somebody wants to see an intersection or a figure eight or a peanut roundabout at Grafton and Marks. That is a tricky intersection. I mean, the Grafton going, I think it's Valley City, doesn't see a whole lot of traffic. But Marks Road's pretty busy. Grafton is pretty busy. I think a roundabout might work there.

[00:02:30] It might slow everything down. Yeah. Well, roundabouts are supposed to speed it up, but it's supposed to be safer. Ah. You ready to talk about the next one, maybe? Yeah. Use your little eyes to see them. Okay. Chick-fil-A posted about their August Family Fun Events. Most of their events are free.

[00:02:52] Yeah. All month long, there'll be small mini plushy cows that will be hidden in the local Brunswick area. So if you find one, it is yours to keep along with a special surprise attached. So that'll be interesting. That is fun. Keep your eye out for those. Yeah. So they're putting them all around Brunswick businesses. Yeah. Partnering with other area businesses. That's kind of cool.

[00:03:20] Who doesn't want a Chick-fil-A plushy cow? Yeah. What else they got going on here? Okay. Friday, August 7th, 1030 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring your creative minds and come make a paper cow puppet to take home. So if you have littles or anything, or you're just looking for something to do, that'll be fun. Yeah. And if it's free... It's for me. Hope to see you there.

[00:03:48] Yep. And tonight, from 8 to 1030, what do they got going on? They have... Oh, that's this morning. Oh. Oh. But here's a big event. Saturday, August 22nd, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., they'll have Touch-A-Truck. It's annual. And they'll have fire trucks. And what is that? A dump truck. A dump truck. Yep. So, again, if you have littles, that'll be super fun. Mm-hmm. Who doesn't like checking out big trucks?

[00:04:18] Yeah. Who was that noise? That was me, you know, Tim the Tool Man Taylor grunting. Oh. Power tools, big trucks, things dads like. Okay. Little kids alike. All right. I got to tell you about this because this is one of my favorite events of the year. To meet other businesses, get to know businesses, know what they're doing, and what we have available to us in the area.

[00:04:45] This is the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance Annual Business in the Barn, presented by MDG Flooring America, Inc. It's over at Mapleside Farms in their beautiful barn. When you think of barns, you think of worn down and dirt floors. Yeah. That is not. This is typically normally a wedding venue. It's very, very nice inside. If you've never had the opportunity to check it out, the view from the back of the barn and the waterfall on the side of the barn.

[00:05:15] Yeah, there's a waterfall there. There is. Wow. It's very nice. You can check that out. So that is on Wednesday, August 19th, next Wednesday, from 3 p.m. till 6.30 p.m. Now, from 3 to 5 p.m. is a VIP networking. It's ticket required, and you can do that on the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance Facebook page. Click on the event. Click on tickets, and you can get that there. But here's your chance.

[00:05:42] From 5 to 6.30, it is always open to the public. And they'll have food samplings from local restaurants, and you'll be able to walk around. There's some free swag and stuff like that, but you'll get to talk to business owners. You'll get to tell them how much, what? The free swag? Yeah. Who doesn't? We just talked about the Chick-fil-A plushie. I mean, I love that. Me too. But, yeah, there's other stuff available.

[00:06:12] They are also accepting door donations for that place for teens, and that is across the street from the middle school. And when school ramps up, so does that attendance over there. Their mission is to create opportunities for teens to grow, connect, and thrive. So any small donation would make a big impact, whether it's snacks, paper products, craft supplies, or other needed items. Your contribution will help provide the resources needed to support the program and activities at that place for teens.

[00:06:42] So if you're stopping up there, which I highly recommend you should, especially if you've never been to the barn, or if you just want to see what businesses are out there, or if you're a business yourself, and you want to do some networking, that is what those businesses are there to share. So super great event. Next Wednesday, 3 p.m. till 6.30 p.m., 5 p.m. to 6.30 is open to the public. Yeah. Ready to move on?

[00:07:11] Mm-hmm. I'm so excited. I didn't get us ready for the next one, but that's okay. There it is. Okay. So over at Playvale, it's turning one. Mm-hmm. And you wouldn't believe that it's turning one because it took them quite a bit of time to open up. Yeah. A little bit of the city with some requirements, new building code requirements, but they also just wanted to get it perfect. That's over in the plaza by...

[00:07:42] Hickory Ridge. Hickory Ridge. That's right. Yep. And there's a new smoothie shop going in next door to them. They put the sign up. It's called Blends. Haven't found them on Facebook yet, but you can find them on Instagram, and they are hiring. But back to Playvale, it is for small children to play, and they're celebrating their one-year anniversary. And that is August 16th from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m.

[00:08:12] I think that's a typo. Yeah. It will be open play. There will be face painting. There will be music. There will be raffles. And you can purchase their tickets for that on their Facebook page as well. Check that out. And congratulations to Playvale on their one-year anniversary, although it feels like two.

[00:08:41] All right. The Wooden Nickel looks like they're having a senior discount Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 3 p.m. through 5 p.m. 65 plus and older. That includes a complimentary soda, tea, or coffee. And that's $2 off a meal. So if you are 65 or older, I'd check out the Wooden Nickel on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Yeah.

[00:09:10] Who doesn't love some good savings? And they have delicious food, very good service, and, again, a barn that is not the typical barn. You go inside. It's very raised ceilings, things nice inside. You've been there. Yeah, I have. We got trivia Thursdays at the backyard. That's tomorrow night, 6, 15 to 8 p.m.

[00:09:37] You can stop by and play Quizzard, live trivia hosted by Patrick, and enjoy a night full of laughs, drinks, and friendly competition over at the backyard. That sounds like fun. They also have $3 off burgers during their, I believe it's during happy hour, 3 to 6 p.m. With half-priced apps, drink specials leading right into the trivia. Trivia begins at 6, 15, and get there early to secure a table.

[00:10:07] It's free to play, and you can win bragging rights. Yeah. Who doesn't love that? Who doesn't love that? There's a live trivia at Ignite Brewing Company. Mm-hmm. Oh, every Thursday, games, 7 to 8 p.m., and it looks like the trivia... Sorry. Yep, there's two games, one at 7, one at 8 p.m.

[00:10:36] They are free to play, and they have some great beers over there as well. Heading back over to Mapleside, this is Disco Inferno. I believe it's one of their last concerts over the Valley Series for the season. That's... It's open at 6 p.m. It starts at 7 p.m. And goes until 10 p.m., and they are a disco tribute band.

[00:11:05] You can check them out Friday night. Yeah. What do I got? Okay. It looks like the Valley City Fire Department Association has used this community event as a fundraiser for the past 90 years. 90 years. Wow. That's a long time. That is a long time.

[00:11:30] Food, beverages, games, and entertainment at the Acoustic City is... And the Acoustic City is playing from 6 to 9 on Friday. And I'll hope to see you there because the Brunswick Girls Rugby is hosting... Not hosting. Having a tent there. And that would be interesting to check out if you have any teens or...

[00:11:59] And just anyone who would like to start up maybe playing rugby in high school. Yeah. They have a rookie rugby that starts out very young. What is it? 6th grade? And then they have a high school rugby. It's boys and girls, but the girls rugby is hosting the tent this year. What are you selling? We're selling raffle tickets for a drawing. So if you'd be interested in that... Yep. Tickets are $20.

[00:12:28] You can win $2,000, $1,000, or $500. So they'll be doing that there right on the street. Lots of other tents to check out. This is the big event of the weekend. One of my favorite for Valley City. We're going to talk about a few more events here going on right down there. Over at Amy's Arbors, this is Third Monkey. They're playing at 7 p.m. And there's a bunch of bands playing at the same time on Friday.

[00:12:58] So I'm not sure where Acoustic City is playing. It says Valley City Fire Department's putting that on. So maybe right there on the main stage. But they also have Third Monkey playing at Amy's Arbors at 7 p.m. Friday night also at the Valley City Street Fair. Where do we go? Tarp Rocks is playing at the Valley City Street Fair.

[00:13:27] This is Saturday at 7 p.m. So the next day. So you'll be able to check out Tarp at 7 p.m. at the Valley City Fair. At Ignite, they're doing an office trivia from 7 to 9 p.m. So that should be fun, especially if you like that show. Even if not, just go ahead. And I don't have a screen for that one. That's Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m.

[00:13:58] Good job on that for not having a screen. We got the Zoomies playing at the backyard Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m. You can check them out. That's their debut. They've never been at the backyard before. Here it is, the office. Oh. 7 and 8 p.m. At Ignite Brewing. Always free to play. Two different games at both 7 and 8 p.m.

[00:14:30] All right. What do we got going on? We got... Oh. At... What is it? Gandalf's. Gandalf's. Down in Valley City again. Yeah. 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Sunday, Chase Franklin's All Things Grateful is a solo project that is centered around the

[00:15:00] Grateful Dead and their various side projects, including Jerry Garcia Band and any other bands. Yeah. Garcia Grisman, Bobby and the Midnights, The Rat Dog, along with other material, their catalogs include covers. It's from early rock and blues. Classic country, bluegrass, and traditional folk songs. So you can check them out over at Gandalf's Pub.

[00:15:24] You know, other covers you might hear, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Outlaws, Allman Brothers, Traffic. The same set list is never repeated, and every performance is uniquely different. And that's Sunday, 3 to 6. Somebody in the group asked last week, where can I go and see live music on Sunday? Panini's has live music on Sunday. I believe that's in the evening, 5 o'clock or 6 o'clock till 9.

[00:15:51] But here's some daytime music you can check out. Mm-hmm. Oh. That's it. That's it. A little short episode. Mm-hmm. What else you got? Excited to go back to school? I'm very excited to go back to school. Mm-hmm. So we got to tour the high school. She's going to be going into the high school as a ninth grader, as a freshman. Yeah.

[00:16:19] I'll get to go there for a year, and then the... And then the new school. The new school. We'll be open the following year. So she'll get to experience what I experienced way back in the late 90s. And... The new school, I'm very excited to see that, because from a few of the meetings I went to with my dad... Yep. They gave a little, like, kind of, like...

[00:16:49] Presentation. Presentation. Yeah. They asked the community leaders and members and students and people who wanted to provide feedback. Go ahead. We took a little question thing on Google Classroom when I was in seventh or sixth grade, and we got to say, like, oh, do you want the school to be modern? Do you want it to be open? Do you like the pods? Mm-hmm. Just things like that.

[00:17:20] And I think that that made it more unique. Mm-hmm. So I'm very excited to see how it will turn out. What... When you walked the high school for the first time, what was the... What really stood out to you? Anything? Maybe... I just really like how, like, long it is. Isn't it? Like... You like that? Yeah. Yeah, I do. I mean, I like it because it's unique, but... Yeah. You'll see. Because you have a classroom and...

[00:17:49] You have a class in the West. And then you have a class in the East. In the West. In the East. In the West. So, yeah. But that's it. That's all I have. And thanks for stopping in. And drive safe, everybody. School children will be out starting early next week. The 18th. So watch out for 18th. So watch out for students. Drive slowly. Be safe. Stop for buses.
