BRUNSWICK — In a heartwarming act of generosity, Brunswick’s bus drivers and community members have come together to make sure no child goes hungry over spring break. On Monday, volunteers packed over 100 bags filled with food for students in need, ensuring they have enough to eat while school is out.

What began as a small effort by a handful of bus drivers has now grown into a true community initiative. For years, a few dedicated drivers quietly took on the responsibility, spending their own money to provide meals for students who might otherwise go without. But this year, something special happened—Brunswick stepped up.
Local businesses, organizations, and residents rallied around the cause. Giant Eagle set up a donation pallet and contributed 100 boxes of cereal along with bags to carry the food. Community members dropped off food at GameStop and the Brunswick Recreation Center, donating so much that the extra supplies will help stock the resource room at the high school. The Optimist Club of Brunswick, Crestview PTO, and other generous donors added grocery store gift cards to the bags, while bus drivers secured a $500 union grant to provide even more support.
Each bag is filled with essentials—juice boxes, cereal, crackers, granola bars, fruit snacks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, pudding, Pop-Tarts, peanut butter, jelly, and canned goods. It’s not just about food; it’s about making sure every child knows they are cared for.
Before spring break begins, the packed bags will be delivered to Brunswick’s schools so that students in need can pick them up. With the overwhelming support from the community, there is hope that this effort will continue for years to come.
Because in Brunswick, no child should go hungry—and thanks to the kindness of neighbors, they won’t have to.
