[00:00:02] Welcome to the Brunswick Group Therapy Podcast with Lucas and Kimberly. Back for another week of Brunswick Group Therapy. You know, somebody said the word therapy was a turnoff and they didn't want to check it out because of it. So, I don't know. We should change the name? No, we're not changing the name. I'm Lucas Merkel and I'm here with... Kimberly Bublick. And we are the Brunswick News Network.

[00:00:33] Ew! No? No. No. Because... Yeah, because after you've been in our group for a while, you need therapy. Yeah. That's kind of how I look at it. Yeah. And if the word therapy triggers you, then you need therapy too. That's possible. So, listen to us and work through it. We'll work through it with ya. Speaking of triggering... Brights? Wow, who knew? Hulk Hogan came to town and people were... Wow. Well, there was...

[00:01:01] It was about 60-40 maybe? About. Yeah. Although, from what I hear, the parking lot, they were turfing the lawn. Not intentionally, but it was crowded. Yeah. I saw the inside of Drug Mart photos and it was crowded. I can only imagine. And then Christie's welcomed them on their sign, Christie's Cabaret. It was hilarious. That post got over 300,000 views. Yeah. 300,000. Gosh.

[00:01:28] It was shared over a hundred times and... I don't know. So, they got some free advertising out of that. Well, hopefully those of you that enjoy the Hulkster got to see him and had a good time. And those of you that don't enjoy the Hulkster, moving on. Let's talk about something else you might be interested in. Because this got a lot of likes and reactions to it. This is probably right up there with one of our most popular ones, which kind of surprised me.

[00:01:56] Yeah, I didn't know this place existed until a couple years ago. Really? Yeah. So, what we're talking about, Princess Ledges. And so, we had somebody took some great pictures and... I've been back there and walked around, but I've still never found this spot. That area. Yeah. That area. So, it's still a hidden gem. Maybe one day this summer, I'll find it. Well, it's not hidden anymore because over a thousand people don't buy it in houses.

[00:02:24] But anyway, we do have some awesome parks, let me tell you. So, what else we got? We got... Brunswick High School is doing Cinderella, Saturday, February 8th at 7. Adults are $12, students are $7. It's also on the 6th at 7pm and two shows on the 8th. And that's at the PAC Center at the high school. So, that's this weekend. Yeah.

[00:02:52] I'm not sure why we didn't put that in events. I don't know. You screwed up, did you? That's what you said. I screwed up. Alright, well, there's a little teaser for things to do to the 212. Oh my goodness, this was exciting. Yeah, it was. Have you tried them yet? Uh, wing style? No, not yet. No? We'll let them figure it out. Their pricing looks pretty good too. It does. Not too bad. There's only so many places in Brunswick that have great wings. I know, right? I'm thinking chicken sandwich maybe.

[00:03:20] Uh, I don't know how much the wings, but uh... I'd like to try them. Yeah. Give it a shot. And they're over where, um, what frog? What frog? Sweet frog? Where sweet frog was. Sweet frog was. Right, right. So forgive me, Fletch and Dave over at Sidelines, but we're gonna have to try them out just to... Yeah. And there's a replacement ice cream place coming to, uh, Market 42. Wayland's Handcrafted Ice Cream.

[00:03:48] Uh, shout out to them because I've been following their Facebook page. They've got some really unique ice creams. Well, I think, speaking of frosty desserts, you yelled at me this week. Oh yeah. I don't know if we're allowed to tell. Well, anybody who walks in there sees it, so it's just not open yet, so... Yeah. Go ahead, you tell. Italian ice. Italian ice. And some... Coming soon. Beverages and stuff. To Pearl Road. Yeah. Near Luna's. There, I didn't say it!

[00:04:17] Ah, I'll give you more details about that as it transpires. Yeah, let us know if you tried, uh, Wingstop. We had a few people say they did, so... Mm-hmm. Um, let us know how you feel about that. Hot Shots celebrated their one year anniversary, and now they've got customer appreciation month going all month long. Eight dollar and nine dollar specials all month long. Uh, burgers and quesadillas and... You spicy pickle chips. That caught my eye. Yeah.

[00:04:46] They, uh, even got some shots there. Patty melt, and then, um, they got three dollar buds, Bud Light, Budweiser, Bud Select, and two dollar root peel barrels. So, uh, every day this month they got an eight or nine dollar special. If you haven't given them a shot yet, stop. Hot Shots. See what you did there. See what you did there. They got on purpose. Right, right. Hey, speaking of anniversaries, the big Ohio Pie is celebrating the big six.

[00:05:16] So, I can't believe they've been here that long already. Yeah. It does not seem that long. No, it doesn't. So, they're celebrating too. Ohio Pie turning six years old in Brunswick. Uh, February, uh, let's see, six, seven, eight. They started already. So, um, but they're gonna have a entry. So, get your entry. So, get your entry in if you get a pizza. One entry per two cookies. Contest runs all week. So, once you order, you get in there.

[00:05:45] Prize is, oh, first prize is free pizza for a year. Yeah. That trumps my, uh, free sheets tots that I won for a year for submitting a meme. That way trumps it. Second prize, uh, free cookies for a year. Equally delish. Third prize, free pizza party. So, it's ten pies, uh, whenever you need them. And fourth through sixth prize is $100 gift cards. Yeah.

[00:06:14] So, I've got a few chances to win and, uh, you can do that all the way up until the ninth. So, happy birthday to Nick and his crew on your six year anniversary. Yeah. Congrats. I guess it's a birthday, right? Another celebration. You know you're from Brunswick gift. Finally hit 40,000 members. Which is crazy because there's only 35,000 residents of Brunswick. That's true. That's true. And I think about 5,000 of them had me blocked. So, uh.

[00:06:44] Mm-hmm. No, but anyway, but somebody did say that. You know, they're like, hey, we only have 35,000 residents. So. Yeah. You know, we, this page is about past, present, and future. Yeah. A lot of people that moved away who still have a remembrance of Brunswick. Some of them are parents that are just checking in on their kid's town. Yeah. So, whoever you are and whatever you're doing out there, thanks for being a member of the group. Yeah. Thanks for joining us. Maybe we'll do that. Uh. You can look in there and see like where everybody's from.

[00:07:13] So maybe we should do that someday and post a breakdown of who's from where. So. Oh, what's this? This is another event somewhere trapped in the beginning half of it. We got the Brunswick Rec Center. Who put this show together? The Brunswick Rec Center is doing a dive in movie. You can watch a movie in the pool and that is happening on February 13th. That's this coming Thursday. It is $20 for members, $25 for non-members.

[00:07:42] Doors open and drop off is at 530 and pick up is at 830. So you actually just drop your kids off at the pool, head out and do your own thing as an adult. I will buy a free ticket for anyone who goes in their pajamas. That also includes one slice of pizza, pop and popcorn. And it's a PG rated movie to be announced at a later date and time. So there's another event that the Rec Center is doing kind of out of the box first time. So hopefully that's successful. That sounds like fun, actually. Yeah.

[00:08:13] This was really cool. So, and I saw this going down the street. I actually saw it being pulled by a truck. It was on something on the back of a truck. And I'm like, it looks like the Devo men are from MTV. It looks like four people are, it's like, like four person hangman. Right? Exactly. Anyway, but what you're looking at is a, um, a project, uh, by Landon Russell, um, spearheading

[00:08:39] a project turned out to it's a gear dryer for the fire department. So Landon did this in an effort to accomplish his Eagle Scout ranking with the Boy Scouts of America. Um, Landon and other members of troop 517 assembled all the materials to make this drying rack themselves. Commercially purchased dryer would cost about $5,000. But, uh, this young man in a troop 517 to put this together.

[00:09:07] And I bet you that's Landon there in the fire gear. What do you think? It probably is. It's really cool, but yeah. Yeah. It's not hangman. It's not Devo or whatever I thought it was, but now I know. So yeah, they say $5,000. Did you see that, uh, this, the township is going to buy a $10,000 copying machine? I mean, is that what the going price for a copying machine? Stop it. That's what I read in the news or in the, in the, yeah, it was a news article. $10,000 for a copier. Yeah.

[00:09:35] Well, if you lease it over five years though, I don't know. Does that come with a service plan? I don't know. I mean, I had to print out some W2s and I just went to the library and it was free. And he, he, he, he, he just head over to the locker room and do it. It's $10,000. Oh, God. It's a shame to you. Wow. That's really strange though. Cause you usually don't purchase them outright either. So. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. But I think, I think I did not. Okay. We'll look into that. This one excited me.

[00:10:04] I thought this was so cool. Um, Medina County is getting its first ever homeless shelter. Um, I think they said 27 beds. Um, they are going to start if they haven't already accepting individuals into that. And, um, we've reached out to them to see how we can help and support them. Yeah. As it goes on. So we'll wait to hear back from them. We haven't heard back yet, but, um, we'll let you guys know.

[00:10:32] And I read you can bring your pet as well. I accept your pet. That's so cool. Yeah. Very cool. Cause a lot of places don't, you know, you wouldn't be able to do that. Yeah. Uh, here's another grand opening. It may not excite everybody, but active plumbing. Um, it's a plumbing supply house is opening up one of another location right here in Brunswick. Uh, and during that they are having a special event that is happening on Thursday, February

[00:11:01] 13th from 8am till 2pm. Um, they're going to have breakfast and lunch and t-shirts and, uh, you'll be entered to win, uh, other things, including Milwaukee, Sue, Chief, Gerber, and, uh, more. You just buy plumbing supplies. It's a plumbing supply house. It's probably. Yeah. Out of your scope of. I got nothing. Yeah. Nothing. But, uh, you know, it's kind of exciting cause every now and then there's some plumbing. I'll call Hesco's probably if I need them.

[00:11:34] But, uh, welcome back to the community. I was just going to say, welcome to Brunswick guys. Or girls. I shouldn't assume, right? Yeah. Grounded Bean has come out with their Valentine's Day lineup of a latte of love. Cute. See what they did there? Yeah. Cherry lover latte, uh, with espresso and mocha sauce and cherry syrup and a whole bunch of other delish. A red velvet latte. Okay.

[00:12:02] Um, and these come hot or iced, it says, uh, with the white chocolate sauce, red velvet syrup, and yaddy yaddy. Don't forget the whipped cream. Um, and love potion, lemonade, red bull, um, or sugar-free red bull with raspberry and blueberry syrups and edible glitter. Hmm. We're not going there. We're not going there. We're not going there. Edible glitter. We're looking at each other like, no, you say it. No, you say it. No, you say it.

[00:12:32] We just won't. You guys can think about it. Oh, that's, that's some good, good options. All right. Well, that's, uh, that's what we got for the first half. Let's head over to Roger at Houndstown. He's got Kip. Hey, Lucas and Kimberly. It's Roger from Houndstown. Lucas, we got another dog with a human name. I know you love him. This week we have Kip with us. Kip is a three-year-old male cattle dog, blue healer mix.

[00:12:58] Um, he came in, uh, on Tuesday and has done great right out of the box. I was a little bit timid at first, but his fit right in with the pack, uh, in packs that we've had him with, um, does great with other dogs, doing great with my team. So great around humans as well. We would love to help get him adopted out. If anybody's interested in, um, doing a meet and greet, um, we would love to hear from you.

[00:13:25] Our number here is three, three, zero, four, six, zero, three, zero, five, two. Call us and we can set up a time for you to come in and check out Kip. Also do remember, you can always go to the Brea animal rescue site to see all of the dogs and cats that they have up for adoption. And then finally do remember here at Houndstown, we are a fully interactive doggy daycare and overnight boarding facility. So we're here to, uh, help your pups, uh, especially during the, uh, winter and hot summer months.

[00:13:51] Um, have a fun day of play and wear them out and give them exposure and play with other dogs. Or we're also a place for, um, your overnight needs when you're going out of town or going on vacation. Uh, we have 44 overnight suites. So we'd love to have you come in and check us out. If you've not been in to check us out before, do remember, we give you your first day free requires an evaluation. Call us for all those details as well. But most importantly, again, help us find, uh, Kip is forever home.

[00:14:21] Check us out on our, um, Cleveland Brunswick Houndstown Facebook page and, uh, feel free to, uh, share that information with any friends and family, um, or just on your social feed. So we can get the word and spread it, spread the word for Kip and hopefully find him as forever home. Take care. And, uh, I'll be back at you next week with another update. Take care. Bye. All right. What a cute guy. Three-year-old male cattle dog, blue healer mix. Looks very friendly and cuddly.

[00:14:50] As Roger said, if you're interested in checking him out, reach out to Brunswick Houndstown or breed animal rescue. So this week we celebrate, celebrated, I guess that's a really, I don't know, recognized, let's do that, uh, World Cancer Day. And, um, wanted to highlight the amazing kids, um, Better Brunswick, I think is what they're called, something like that. Um, Students for Better Brunswick, I think that's what it is.

[00:15:18] And they are on a mission to raise $100,000 for the Leukemia Society. So they need everyone's help and, uh, we're going to have them on probably next week. Right now we want you to watch one of the videos they made, um, in celebration of one of their, uh, student friends, Mick, who has kicked cancer's butt. So let's watch the video they made. We are Runs for a Brighter Teacher.

[00:15:45] We are composed of 26 student visionaries with one vision, a world without blood cancer. For several months we have been preparing fundraisers, engaging our community, and working together to create a brighter future. And now my team and I have until March 8th to raise money for this deserving charity. We are now in our active fundraising period working to reach our ambitious goal of $100,000. We have a passion and dedication to changing the world. But this just means we have to work extra hard and I'm up for that challenge.

[00:16:14] My friend Mick from Brunswick is this year's honored hero in our region. A community member, Brunswick High School student, team member, and blood cancer survivor. This gives us all the more reason to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Just so that more patients can ring the bell. Just like Nick McGinnis. Today is World Cancer Day. We are asking our community, as well as our friends, family, and all those willing to support this cause to contribute just $1 to our campaign. We're on to for a Brighter Future today.

[00:16:42] We are motivated to bring change advocacy and patient support. I want to do my part and I'm asking you to help in our mission. Thank you for your time and consideration for our cause. Thank you, Brunswick. Thank you. So if you can, please donate. We'll talk to the kids next week and tell you a little bit more about it. But we have the link up all over the place.

[00:17:11] So if everyone in Brunswick donated $1, they could make their, you know? Yep. And like we said in the last episode, they did $80,000 some last year, $75,000 the year before. And this year they're trying to top it. So let's give them support. We can do it. They can do it. All right. Let's get into things to do in the 2-1-2. What do we got going on? All right.

[00:17:37] We've got Sporgle Live Trivia over at Ignite Brewing Company. And don't forget to try their flatbreads. That looks like it's going to be every Thursday night from 7 to 9 for the near future. Looks like it goes on until further notice. And again, Ignite Brewing every Thursday. Live Trivia. Try the flatbreads. Did I mention that already? That's right. Friday, we got Right Now playing over at Mapleside Farms in the barn.

[00:18:04] Era of Red Rocker Sammy Hagar and some explosive energy. And I read that you can reserve a table which comes with 10 tickets for just $2.50. Or general admission is $18. So if you want somewhere to sit, the tables are generally first come, first serve. But they will reserve you a table for if you gather up 10 friends and want to have a good time. I have not been here. Have you been here? I have not been there.

[00:18:32] And it's strange because I think this is Hungarian food and I'm Hungarian as they come. So Alessia's? Alessia's? Alessia? I don't know. I don't know. Here we go again. Anyway, in over in Richfield, right over the border, Alessia's? Alessia's? Alessia. Alessia. Is my guess. Tavern of Richfield. Tomorrow night from 7 to 10. And it's an event by Furious George Hartwig.

[00:19:01] Why don't you tell us about it? Yeah. It's a fine dining restaurant, exquisitely restored grand ballroom and prohibition style speakeasy. Centered in the historic district of the village of Richfield. Reservations and walk-ins are welcome. And in the summertime, they have a nice patio with entertainment every weekend. But Furious George Hartwig is playing in the downstairs speakeasy this Friday at 7 p.m. Didn't always sound so naughty. Speakeasy.

[00:19:31] Oh my goodness. Enough of this silliness. Grace and Gratitude Yoga is back again, added this Saturday from 1030 to 12. Divine Galentine. If you're interested in that, go check out their Facebook page. Grab your bestie and join them for a 90-minute partner yoga sculpt class that's empowering as it is fun. Space is limited to 10. So book today and get your spot.

[00:19:59] Go over to Grace and Gratitude Yoga Facebook page and sign up this Saturday at 1030. All right. Also Saturday at 730 is live music with Katie Kay and Uncle Jay. Once again, this is over at Gandalf's Pub right there in Valley City. They do the best of classic rock with the songbird of the generation. Moving right along over at Manzo's. Also this Saturday off the radio at Manzo's.

[00:20:27] And they are, what kind of music do they play? I do not know. I'm going to guess it's stuff that's on the radio. They look, uh... I don't know. They look like a rock band. Yeah. Most of the bands over at Manzo's is rock. So go check them out. Yeah. Saturday night starting at what? Eight? Eight. There you go. Yep. Tell us what it is. What? Got Super Bowl. Got some events coming up for the Super Bowl, right? We do.

[00:20:57] We got a few different parties going on. We got over at Hoppy Dudes. This starts at 6 p.m. They've got a potluck for the Super Bowl. Bring a dish to share and hang out with the coolest people in town. Staying open until the end of the game. Sunday hoppy hour prices will be good for the whole game also. That's pretty exciting. Yeah. Big game watch party. Sunday at 6 o'clock over at Ignite Brewing. Try their flatbread. Did we try to get it? $15. Any wrap and flatbread.

[00:21:27] And a pass. Or. Any wrap or flatbread. Not and. See? Or you're going to owe them money for all those extra. Yeah. Hot dogs and a beer. Hot dogs and a beer. Flatbread and a beer. Half price appetizers from 6 to 8. Go watch the game. They've got quite a number of televisions in there. Very comfy. Plus every $10 you spend will put you into a raffle for a gift basket. That's cool. And a chance to win a $100 gift card.

[00:21:55] Two Ignite glasses, Ignite hat, an Ignite t-shirt and an Ignite sticker. All in that gift basket. So. There you go. Head over to Ignite. You need that. This one over at Man's, back at Manzo's. They're going to have a limited seating closed event. You pay $60. And it's fully catered buffet, fried chicken, wings, sandwiches and pizza. Endless pudding and jello shots. You ever had their pudding shots? No. Phenomenal.

[00:22:26] All included in the open bar. Sounds dangerous actually. $60 per person. And it's going to be limited seating closed event. That's a great deal. Yeah. No, this is a terrible transition. How are we supposed to go from football and beer and jello shots and pudding shots to. This one's over. Afternoon tea. Afternoon tea at the Brunswick Sycamore room at the library. Right? Yeah.

[00:22:57] 1.30 p.m. 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th. This is an adult, obviously, because the kids are in school, right? Yeah. That day. So if you're looking for something to do, bring your own teacup and gather with other tea lovers for a variety, to taste a variety of teas, share stories and recipes. What if you don't have a teacup? Will they provide you a teacup? I don't think so. Can I bring a mug?

[00:23:26] If only we had some secondhand stores around that you could just go get a teacup. I guess so. This goes good with the book tasting that they're also having. What? A book tasting. Wednesday, February 12th at 5.30 to 7 p.m. Find fresh new reads while enjoying book-themed snacks. This is for teens, grades 6 to 12. And you register at Medina County District Library dot info slash food events.

[00:23:56] Okay. Name me one book-themed snack. Book-themed snack. Hmm. Nope. Can't do it. Yeah. So. Do it. Oh my goodness. All right. What else we got going on? It looks like Daughter's Choice Dance. Yeah. Yeah. At the Diamond Events Center. Very nice.

[00:24:25] So girls can bring whomever they would like, uncle, grandpa, whomever. That's going to be Saturday, February 15th from 6 to 8.30. Only $25 per person over at the Diamond Events Center. Check out their Facebook page. Their dances are becoming pretty popular. So I wouldn't wait either to get your tickets. So. Here's another Valentine's event. This one's over at Gamers Lair. It's Friday, February 14th from 6 to 10 p.m.

[00:24:53] It's $15 and all ages are welcome. Whether you're a gamer couple or a single player champion, you can join them for a night of games, friendly competition, and gamer romance. Team up with your special someone or engage in some friendly competition or meet your new player number two. Nice. Nice. And it's $15 per person. It includes games and treats all night. Very cute. Fix the 10 on Friday, February 14th. Very cute. That's really nice.

[00:25:22] If gaming's not your thing and you want to go do something like this, on Wednesday, February 12th from 6 to 8. It's Sweetheart Skate over at Brunswick Skate Station. So for those two hours, bring your sweetheart over there or your friends and join in some family fun for a cute date night with your significant other or your friends. Again, $6 admission, $2 skate rental, $4 for inline. Check them out.

[00:25:50] Again, that is going to be Wednesday, February 12th. Yep. And here's another one. The Brunswick City School District is having an Internet Safety for Parents session, I guess. That's Thursday, February 13th at 6.30 p.m. It's over at the Brunswick Middle School PAC Center. You can RSVP using the QR code or I'm sure online at Brunswick City School's website. Presentation highlights his value versus risk, parental complicity, mental health impacts,

[00:26:19] cyberbullying, sexting, sexual predation, popular apps explained in extreme content and gaming, how to monitor, supervise, and consequence. So I attended this years ago. Jessie is a very well-known Internet safety expert. And she was brought in before. And this is a really, really good presentation.

[00:26:44] So I really highly recommend that and encourage parents to go. It's really informative. So put that on your calendar. Good idea. And last but not least, we all have back at Ignite Brewing Company. This is Wednesday, February 12th from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. I always like what grassroots design does. They got this flickering pressed flower lantern. That is really cool. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:27:12] They had that sign last time. But this one's $46. You're going to be making a three and a half inch by seven inch glass teardrop terrarium. Terrarium. There you go. Container. And that you can hang, choose what flowers that go in it, and take that home with you. That's really cool. Pretty cool. All right. Well, I think that's it. That's it. Episode number 88 is in the books. That's it. Oh, I saw a couple dumpsters next to Save-A-Lot.

[00:27:42] I think there might be some activity going on in there. I know what it is. Do you? I know what it is. Of course. We always know. This is one that we've been sitting on, though, for a long time. But let us get some more information, and we'll tune in next week, and we'll let you guys know what we know. Thanks, Brunswick. Take care. See you guys. Bye.

[00:28:29] Bye-bye. Please reach out to Kimberly or I through any of our social media pages. We are passionate about supporting local and it's the reason for this podcast.
