[00:00:02] Welcome to the Brunswick Group Therapy Podcast with Lucas and Kimberly. Boy oh boy, we're at episode number 85 now. And that last- Yeah, but it's a celebration for 100, right? Yeah. If you missed episode 84, you gotta go back and listen to it because it was chock full of good stuff. Every week is chock full of good stuff. What are you saying? Yeah, but we took a couple weeks off, so we had a lot of information. Maybe we should do it once a month.

[00:00:31] True. Hey, once every other week. We'll talk about that. Yeah. That way we can build up the suspense, right? Yeah. All right, you wanna kick us off? Oh, gosh. Where do I start on this one? Rainforest No More, Whistle Express, I guess is the name. Is that the official name? Yeah. Having some issues over there, it looks like. One of the former employees jumped on and said,

[00:00:56] Hey, we've seen all of your concerns lately and just want to let you know that we also have concerns and we made the decision to leave. Yeah. I heard it was closed. So. I don't know if it's still closed, but it was closed that day. It looked the other day and it, I don't know. I think I saw a car come out of there. I'm not sure, but you know, see if they can turn things around and maybe they can make everything whole again.

[00:01:19] Yeah. That post reached 30,000 people and 349 people clicked the customer contact button. Wow. The link that they put to, uh, to cancel. So I don't know if that's an accurate, you know, and people were coming up with other ideas and other suggestions on where they could go. And, um, I actually am a big fan of the touchless wash up. I.

[00:01:45] I. Grafton like right next door to Taylor furniture. Oh, probably been to that one. Uh, yeah, I go to, uh, Boston laser wash corner of, uh, Boston and 130th and, uh, pretty happy with that. Good, good, good wash. Yeah. Cheap.

[00:02:02] I, um, the last time I was over at whistle express, the back window and the thing that goes over the back window, the little, I don't know whether you want to call it, but did not. It was like, didn't get the window clean at all. Um, and I went to this touchless the other day, which I thought, how can they get your car clean if it's touchless? But did a really nice job. Right. It's a real nice job. But anyway, but back to whistle express, we hope you guys, uh, can turn this around.

[00:02:31] And, um, make our residents happy. Yeah. Yeah. As Lucas and I know happy residents, happy life. Right. So, uh, all right. Well, good luck to you guys. Let's, uh, move along here. We got a lot to go over. So what else you got? Uh, well, last week we talked about, uh, lacrosse and rugby. Uh, lacrosse was so successful in their, um, clinic that they are doing another one on the 19th, but, uh, we got all the traditional sports.

[00:03:01] It's this week. We got, uh, starting off with spring rec soccer, boys and girls, birth years, 2008 to 2016. You can register now at, uh, the QR code here or brunswickohiosoccer.com. It's $90 per player. You play April 19th through May 24th practice once per week in a game every Saturday. So if you're into soccer, now's the time to sign up for that.

[00:03:27] Yeah. And speaking of sports, the rec has got, um, Brunswick youth basketball league going on. Their spring league is going to kick off soon. Ages, uh, boys and girls grades, excuse me, two through eight.

[00:03:39] Members, $65, non-members, 90 registration deadlines coming up February 24th. Um, kind of the same format there. Weekly practices, either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Sunday and games on Saturday. So if you're interested, call the rec 3 3 0 2 7 3 8,000 option number six, and you can register again. That's boys and girls grades two through eight spring league basketball.

[00:04:04] Yeah. And, uh, Brunswick youth baseball and softball association. Some has so much going on. I, uh, sat down with them to let them tell us a little bit about what's going on. You want to hear it? Great. Yeah. Let's take a listen. All right, everybody. I am here with Brunswick youth baseball and softball association representatives, Dom and Steve. How you doing guys? Excellent. Doing great. Thanks.

[00:04:26] Right. And this is the organization that the city of Brunswick chose after they did a, um, bidding process where they each submitted a proposal and they found Brunswick youth baseball and softball association was the one that they were going to go with and exciting stuff coming up and your registration just opened up. Uh, why don't you guys tell me a little bit about your experience with baseball and softball? We'll start there.

[00:04:50] Yeah, for sure. I'll go ahead. It's Dom here. Grew up playing, played into college on the baseball end of things. And then since I've had kids and even before we had kids, I was coaching, uh, through several different organizations. And, um, as the kids grew into it, got involved with coaching them and into the youth side of things through multiple sports and, um, helping start programs. And, and we did that with T-ball and, you know, some, some other organizations and, and getting, getting involved through that.

[00:05:19] It really kind of just became a passion and seeing a lot of opportunities to help a lot of kids really make strides and, you know, in the, not just the sport from an athletic standpoint and the sports standpoint, but from a confidence standpoint and getting to learn how to play on a team and all that, especially when they were little as early as their first years of T-ball and flag football and getting to learn how to, how to be on their first teams and, and all of these kids.

[00:05:46] And then growing up to where they're actually mastering the sport and competing at a high level for some of my kids that do that. And, you know, I've got two daughters as well. You know, we've, we've brought them up through T-ball and currently and softball and getting to see that has been awesome as well. So, I mean, that's kind of the, I guess the basics of my experience. Uh, I'm real about you, Steve, what do you think?

[00:06:06] Yeah. Yeah. You know, real similar having kids and being around coaching. Um, it's just been really rewarding for me, right? Trying to helping, you know, I always knew I wanted to help my kids with it and seeing my kids.

[00:06:18] But then when you get around those other kids and just watch them have fun and learn and grow, it's, it's, it's been awesome. So yeah, for me, just coaching lots of different sports, but baseball is a big, baseball has been a big passion for me. So definitely really excited to get this going. Uh, yeah, it's, it's been a fun journey and I'm really looking forward. Can't wait for the snow to melt unless to get out on the fields.

[00:06:40] Yeah. It is wild that it's, uh, in the teens outside, the snow is out there. It's slippery. It's middle of January. Um, but we've already got registration open. Why don't you tell me a little about your registration? I saw you guys have a brand new website. Oh yeah. Jump on there. Brunswickbybsa.com. It's developing. We're adding more information pretty frequently as, as things come up, as questions get asked. And as we kind of figure out both what people want to know and what they want to see and, and updates to our podcast.

[00:07:10] Program, some of which we'll mention here with you, I think. And, um, yeah, all ages, as far as youth baseball and softball and t-ball are concerned. If your kids are ages three up to age 18, I mean, uh, we got something for you and the registration has been coming in furious. I, we can tell just by, uh, the hot start we've had so far that people are excited about this and this is good. We're excited and we can't wait.

[00:07:33] That's good. That's fantastic. And I saw you already have some, uh, events coming up before the season. You have some, uh, free events and other events. Why don't you tell me a little about what you got going on?

[00:07:43] Yeah, that we're really excited about. We're putting on our, our first free youth softball clinic for girls ages seven to 14. You know, it was something where at an indoor facility that we partner with, um, we, we had some space and thought we would give this a try to see what type of interest we would gather. And we were, we were kind of blown away. Um, lots of interest, lots of questions.

[00:08:06] We had to cap it, um, at 20 registrations due to some space issues in the facility, but we filled that in less than two days and got lots of questions, lots of interest about other potential dates. So that's just in less than a couple of weeks here on the 25th, really excited about it. I think the girls are going to have a ton of fun. Um, really some really good instruction and just to kind of learn the basic skills. So I'm really looking forward to it. I know they'll have a blast.

[00:08:36] Uh, with some, some really good instructors, uh, who, who have high level softball experience as well. So that'll be good. And then we certainly are going to continue to look to do another date. I know, um, because this filled up so quick, we're going to look to get another date. And when we have that information, we'll get that out to you as soon as we can. Great. Any other, uh, clinics or. We're getting a lot of interest as we continue registration. We're getting a lot of interest for the, the coaches clinic.

[00:09:04] Don, why don't you tell them a little bit about kind of what we're trying to accomplish there? Yeah, for sure. So one of the things that I say, you know, all of us really as a group kind of thought would be very beneficial. And just from feedback that we've received over the years through different sports is that it's, it's critical that the coaches kind of know what's going on. They're the ones that are putting in the most work. They're volunteering. They're the ones closest to the kids. And, and really they're, they're, they're the feet on the ground, boots on the ground, so to speak, when making an organization successful.

[00:09:34] And, uh, making sure that these folks have an opportunity, these coaches clinics, they're as much for the coaches as, as they are for us. And these are going to be in March, you know, as registration starts to mature, we're going to be reaching out to these coaches. We already have reached out to several of them. Um, and we're going to continue to do so as the registrations come in, but making sure that these coaches, a, we, we, we all know who they are. Some of them have a lot of baseball and softball experience and they have a lot to offer that we want to know. And we want to know, we want to hear from them.

[00:10:03] We want to hear what they think this program should look like. And this is something we, we were maintaining a level of agility and flexibility that as, as this feedback comes in, we can kind of go whatever direction we really need to go for what's best for the kids. So for the experienced coaches and baseball and softball minds, we want to hear from these people during these coach clinics, but then also for the people, um, in some sports, myself included. And I know a lot of people, they show up, they just want to hang out with their kids and they want to offer to help because they know the program needs it.

[00:10:31] And they don't have that baseball and softball experience. They don't know how to run a college level practice. And we're going to show them how to do it. We're going to give them all the tools that they need to conduct these practices and help these kids. If they choose to take advantage of it, they don't necessarily have to, but we're providing them with all the tools and training that they need to get an efficient practice in. And, and they're going to have an opportunity to really spend a lot of time on the fields, practicing and developing skills, which is cool.

[00:10:57] And we're, you know, these clinics are designed to both help us as an organization and help our, help our coaches, uh, get started on a really strong footing. Great. And, uh, I saw another post from you guys about, uh, Tri-C internship. Uh, what's that all about? Yeah, this is pretty cool. We're excited about this too. Um, we, we know that there's a lot of work to do and there's, we got, we got to talking with Tri-C and they have an internship, um, as part of their business curriculum.

[00:11:27] Um, and, and a lot of, they have students that are interested in sports management, things like that. So we got to talking to them and we really realized this could be a great opportunity for a local student. I mean, we, we have a campus here, right here in Brunswick. Um, but there's also, you know, a campus close by in Parma. And we know that there's a lot of local kids who have local ties, who, who are going to be like us really passionate about this.

[00:11:51] So to be able to have a really hands-on experience, um, you know, along with working with some great individuals. I mean, we have, you know, individuals that are really passionate about working with kids, but also have some great professional experience as well. I mean, obviously this is all volunteer for us and we have our own professional experience. So the opportunity to work with someone local, have it really mean something for their education. And, um, but, but also, but also really kind of be mentors for them.

[00:12:21] You know, we're, we're really looking forward to it. We'd love to find someone like a Brunswick student, uh, if we can. Man, that's fantastic. Uh, Dom, Steve, I appreciate you coming on. Uh, anything else you want to let the community know before I let you go? No, thanks so far for the hot start to the registration and for all the positive feedback. Keep it coming. Um, if you got ideas, things you want to see, I know we're out there looking for sponsors right now as well. I, you know, every little bit goes a really long way.

[00:12:47] You would like to fill that entire, every fence square foot we can with, um, community businesses, individuals who, who want to help out. Um, we want to see your logos. We want to see your information hung up on banners on the fences and we want to get this community involved and let us know what we can do to help you. All right. Thanks guys. Appreciate it. Once again. Thank you. All right. So, uh, exciting times over there with, uh, baseball and softball association. Wish that organization the best of seasons.

[00:13:15] Um, next up on our, uh, list here on the show is woven with promise is calling all young ladies who may need a prom dress. You can schedule an appointment. You can schedule an appointment. You can schedule an appointment. February 28th and March 1st over at one three, three Oh, North Carpenter road. Just go to, um, um, woven with promise. Um, I think their numbers on their page. I'm sure it's prom dress.

[00:13:53] I'm sure it's prom dress giveaway time. Uh, for that to be available to, uh, do it. Yeah. Yeah. So it's time to do that.

[00:14:15] Um, my, uh, friend and I have been going on to, uh, this paparazzi jewelry, you know, thing where you watch the lives and you buy $5 jewelry. Well, there's this lady that's going out of business. So for the last several months we've been buying bling jewelry. So we're really excited to take that stuff over there and, uh, the girls can glam it up and, uh, have a great night. All right. So. Moving right away. Okay. Back to business. Yeah. Right.

[00:14:43] We got, uh, January 23rd at 6 30 PM is the planning commission meeting for the special planning district. Number nine. I wanted to remind you if, uh, you wanted to stop up and see what that's all about. This is for the, uh, development going, uh, or proposed to go by the bowling alley across from fire station. Number one in that grassy area with the, uh, homes and apartments and a commercial frontage. So just want to remind you that that's coming up. Yeah.

[00:15:11] I mean, everyone's got something to say about it and here's your chance to show up and speak out about it. So, um, again, what is it? The 23rd? Yep. 6 30 town hall. There you go. Hey, every once in a while we get a post that, you know, you're like, ah, it's kind of a feel good post. That's kind of neat. Well, this one just, oh my goodness. Probably a thousand likes or loves about 150 comments shared a couple dozen times.

[00:15:38] Um, this is about a young man who's at the drug mart on 303. Um, he said, we always, you know, hear how lazy young people are sometimes on the internet and complaints and stuff like that. So he wanted to say that the entire staff is amazing, but there's one individual that stands out and, um, he's amazing. His name is Brandon. He's at the register and they said he deserves a raise. So he's thoughtful, caring, and it just has a good attitude every time you go in there.

[00:16:07] So if you're over at the drug mart on 303, tell Brandon, give him a shout out because over a thousand people liked it. Um, and like I said, you just never know every once in a while we get one of these feel goods and, um, this was, this was a good one. So Brandon, drug mart 303, you're getting a raise. Yeah. Well done, Brandon. Hopefully. Nice. Good job. I saw this post, uh, for the cracked egg. You don't want to forget about them.

[00:16:32] Me and my buddy actually stopped up there for breakfast, uh, maybe two weeks ago and, uh, service was good. Food was excellent. And the prices were, uh, phenomenal. Yeah. I'm looking at those early bird specials. Makes me want to skip work and go have breakfast during the week, huh? Yeah. I had a skillet. It was a little more expensive than that, but, uh, darn was it, was it delicious. And then I saw another friend there. So, uh, you know, people are, uh, people are going. But don't forget about, uh. Yeah.

[00:17:00] But where else can you get, where else can you get two eggs, hash browns and bacon for five bucks? I do not know. I do not know. Okay. It's $4.99. It's less than five bucks. That's crazy. So, um, anyway, the, the purpose of the post was just to remind people, don't forget about the cracked egg. Cross from the middle school up on Pearl. Check them out. They also have a party room too. I saw a second room. So if we have a private meeting. Yeah. All right. Should we talk about the tree again? Yeah.

[00:17:29] Up next, we're talking about the tree. I missed the meeting, but, uh, you sat down with some people and? You did miss the meeting. Um, but it was, uh, productive. We talked about what went right and what went wrong and how we can program the tree to lean every week, um, every week, year in the first week. So we've started a tradition. So now we have to make the tree lean. But anyway, um, Brad Hoffman and Hoffman tree service is committed once again. And I'm sure many other businesses will be back.

[00:17:59] I want to keep reiterating to everybody though. Everyone's talking about our surrounding communities and what they do. I want to remind you that just for the city of Strongsville alone, it takes 70 businesses, 70 plus businesses, um, with financial commitments of anywhere from, let me see, we saw their form and I think it starts at 250 and goes up to $5,000. So, um, that's what it takes to put on their display each year.

[00:18:26] So we'll never be Strongsville and Medina, but we're excited about getting more people involved, more volunteers, more, um, just more of everything, more lights, more tree, bigger tree that, you know, it's going to look different every year. And I think that's, what's going to make us unique. So stay tuned. If you want to volunteer though, reach out to Lucas or myself. And, uh, if you want to make a donation, you can call St. Mark and give that directly to them. So stay tuned and, uh, we'll see what's coming up soon. Yeah. Can't wait. All right.

[00:18:54] Let's head over to Mitchell at Houndstown and check out the dog of the week. All right. Hey, Lucas and Kimberly, it's Roger from Houndstown. Hopefully you guys are doing well. This week we have, uh, Mitchell with us. He is a one-year-old male beagle terrier mix. He's a little guy. He's about 25 pounds. He's doing fabulous with all of the, uh, different dogs that we've had him with. Um, very friendly to dogs, humans, um, would love to get him adopted out.

[00:19:22] If anybody's interested in doing a meet and greet to, uh, meet him, whether you have pets or not, give us a call here at 330-460-3052. And we can arrange to, uh, have you come in and see him and, uh, let him meet you and your family. Um, also remember that we are here for, um, any doggy daycare or overnight boarding needs that anybody may have. If you've not been here before, you just need to call us and set up a evaluation and we'll go over all those details when customers call in.

[00:19:51] And then lastly, do remember that Bria Animal Rescue offers a large variety of both dogs and cats for adoption. If you wanted to learn more about any of those dogs, including Mitchell, you can head to the Bria Animal Rescue site, um, where you'll see profiles of all of the dogs, including Mitchell, or you can see Mitchell's profile on our, um, Houndstown Cleveland Brunswick Facebook page as well. So hopefully everybody has a great weekend in, um, hopefully we'll have Mitchell adopted out before the end of the weekend. Take care.

[00:20:21] And that was Mitchell. Thanks, Roger. It's your favorite. You love when they're here to have people names. Look at the eyes on that guy. I know. Did you see like one is like blue or something? Yeah, I'm like, you know, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, you definitely will know it's your dog if you lose them, which is pretty cool. Now it's time to talk about things to do in the two one two. So, uh, let's get at it. Uh, tonight is a music night every month.

[00:20:47] The third Thursday of every month is music night and open guitar, come and sing and play at Havana choice cigars. Head on up there between six and nine, the third Thursday of every month. More details to talk, come. So follow their, their Facebook page. But tonight you can head on up there. It's the first one that they're doing and, um, crew in a tune. If you, if that's your thing and you want to do, it's kind of like an open mic night. So it says bring your banjo to banjos welcome. Yeah.

[00:21:17] You can check your banjo up there. That'd be great. I don't have a banjo. And then the following night, uh, Friday 17th, we have a live music with Custy and McNamara over at Gandalf's pub. And that starts at 7 30 PM. Look at that. She's got a guitar. Lots of guitars. Here's some more. Oh my gosh. Two more. Here we go. Over at Ignite Brewing. Um, tomorrow night. Is that? Yeah. I can't see. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Tomorrow night from seven to 10 Ignite Brewing.

[00:21:46] And we've seen these guys out and about before it's strum and strummer. Um, again, over at Ignite, go get a good beer, try their flatbread. I know we keep saying, try it, but you need to try it. Um, and that's tomorrow night at seven from seven to 10. And then, uh, Saturday over at Gandalf's pub again, there's live music with Katie K and uncle Jay. It's amazing how that just kind of rolls off the tip of your tongue. Katie K and uncle Jay. 730 PM. It's like they planned it. Yeah.

[00:22:15] And, uh, lots of music this weekend. Lots of music. Saturday night at 830 PM is R and R music. That's over at Manzo's again at 830 PM. It's just says a night of classic rock and roll. So that's why they call it R and R and R music rock and roll. Classic music at Manzo's 830 Saturday. One of the last events, a tangled vine, uh, Sunday at 10 AM is party with your favorite blue pup.

[00:22:44] Oh, this one is filled with game snacks, juice, and fun. Tickets include one adult and one child and additional girls are $10. I guess I read that their, uh, wine bottles are sold out, but they still have by the glass wine. She can purchase until they close. Sad. No, still sad to see that happen, but totally, you know, get it. Yep. Um, then what is this? I mean, I've never, well, I was going to say you've never been pregnant either.

[00:23:13] So I guess neither one of us have experience on this, but fourth trimester mom series, uh, continues. And the next one will be Wednesday, January 22nd. And that's a grace and gratitude yoga. If you'd like more details about it, just check out their Facebook page. It's an eight week discussion class designed for moms up to, um, around four months postpartum.

[00:23:36] So each week they'll, you know, talk about new topics and from physical healing to, um, navigating, uh, relationship changes, sleep and all that other stuff. So I adopted, so I can't relate to this and you've never been pregnant that I know of. So, um, go, go to their Facebook page at, uh, grace and gratitude yoga, check it out. See if it might be something that you're interested in. And then you can jump in next week, Wednesday, it's the 22nd.

[00:24:06] It is in the morning at nine 45. Yeah. And, uh, this one I was excited about and, uh, got canceled during, uh, a snow event. I wasn't able to go that night anyway. So now I'm excited that it's coming back Wednesday, January 22nd from six 30 to nine 30 PM is hot mic night at the grounded bean. Uh, anybody can show up and show off your talent. They're going to have espresso martinis and tasty bites. Uh, a few performance spots are still available.

[00:24:35] You can call up there and seize the opportunity. And that's at the grounded bean Wednesday, January 22nd from six 30 to nine 30 PM. And, uh, back it up a day on Tuesday, January 21st. After you drop off my birthday present to my home, you guys can head up to the Brunswick VFW at 7 PM for T and P bar bingo. Um, they're back for a new night of fun. Open. This is open to the public.

[00:25:02] It's bingo, but it's using playing cards, which I don't think I've ever done that, but $1 to $5 a hand. Be the first to flip all your cards over. And then the winner takes all. Oh, okay. That sounds like something we might be able to finagle. Yeah. Come and have some drinks, appetizers, um, and some fun and maybe win some money. So again, Tuesday, the 21st, seven o'clock at Brunswick VFW. And, uh, I thought this thing was absolutely beautiful.

[00:25:28] The Grassroot Design Company is heading over to Ignite Brewery for Thursday, January 23rd at 6 30 PM. And you're going to be making one of these Cleveland signs by doing an acrylic pour. That's pretty cool. Yeah, it is. Those look amazing. There's a link for tickets on Eventbrite. Uh, just head over to Ignite Brewing Company and, uh, it's $47. I'm not sure what size that sign is, but, uh, that thing looks pretty sweet. Yeah. Yeah. I wonder if we can get them to do a custom pour where it says Brunswick and then we got

[00:25:58] the clock tower and the two water towers. Oh, that would be neat. Yeah. Can it say Bruns-tucky though? Ooh, that's a topic, man. I love when that triggers people. I bet you do. Hey, Brunswick, that's going to do it for us this week. Thanks so much for tuning in. And please hit that, uh, like button and share the podcast with somebody else. Um, and we want to hear from you too. You can also go to brunswickgrouptherapy.com. Microphone in the lower right-hand corner. Leave us a message.
