[00:00:01] We'll bounce back and forth between here and here. To the Brunswick Group Therapy Podcast with Lucas and Kimberly.

[00:00:37] Alright, we're live and I've got my beautiful and talented wife with me today, episode 148. And we'll kick it off. We are sponsored by Hickory Ridge Cinemas. We went there recently. Yep. It's a very funny movie. I'm glad we did because those chairs were so comfortable and they reclined all the way back that I wanted to fall asleep.

[00:01:05] Yeah, props to number two theater. What did we see? We saw... The Breadwinner. Good movie. Yeah, great movie. It was like Mr. Mom remake. So if you're into making, laughing at dads who don't quite, I don't know what the word is. Know what's going on in the household that has to jump in at the last minute. So the wife can further her career.

[00:01:36] Mr. Mom or what's that other movie that's like that? Daddy Day Care, maybe. Yeah, a little bit. Good stuff. Good stuff. And let's see here. Moving right along. Oh, and online ordering was super easy. You can order your popcorn, order your drink, get your tickets, choose your seats online all before. So check that out.

[00:02:05] Brunswick's working on projects within the Parks Master Plan. A news article came out that said they are doing some fixing up of the tennis courts. They're doing some new pickleball lines. So you'll be able to play pickleball in more places. Some roof repair at some pavilions and some other great stuff. But what I most got out of the article is the Friends of Brunswick Parks is now an active organization.

[00:02:32] It's a group of volunteers helping shape the future of the parks. And they're currently doing a lot of park cleanups. I know they have one coming up for Venus Park. So check their Facebook page or go to friendsofbrunswickparks.org to get more information on joining the group.

[00:02:52] We just went to Brunswick Lake to put your kayaks or paddleboards or canoes out on the water. And I don't want to be the first, so I want somebody else to go so that I can take mine out there. And yeah, I always get freaked out when I jump into a kayak, which has only been twice in my life.

[00:03:17] But the bobbling of back and forth as you're getting in and getting out is eliminated in this because you actually just put yourself in this little, not tube, but half tube on your kayak and you push yourself out. And then when you're back, you pull yourself in and you're basically getting in and out of the kayak out of the water. So very cool. You can remain completely dry. Yeah. Yeah, that's cool.

[00:03:45] Up next, we have, it's been getting hot outside, so we're looking for places to swim. Check out Willow Lake Park for a day. It's at 2400 Substation Road and they have a beautiful lake. Yeah. Concrete. Chlorinated. Chlorinated concrete lake. I've been in it and I am not a huge fan of swimming in lakes, but it's clean, it's nice, and it's hot. It's hot.

[00:04:14] Yeah, it sure does. I saw this post and wanted to let everybody know, Playville is having productive play days. Um, let your child enjoy a fun-filled play session while you make the most of your time. You can drop them off and they'll supervise them for you. It's $20 per session, lasts three hours. They have them on Tuesdays from 9 to noon and Fridays 1 to 4.

[00:04:42] Bring a water bottle for the kid so they don't, uh... Dehydrate. Dehydrate. Online reservation is available and walk-in upon availability. And, uh, they are over located in Hickory Ridge Plaza as well. That's nice. I wish that there was something like that when our kids were, I guess maybe we had, uh, Eagle's Nest. The Eagle's Nest, yeah. We could go grocery shopping just so we could leave them in there for a little bit. Good times, good times. Let them have some social interaction.

[00:05:12] Take my kid, yeah. Moving right along, we have a public meeting coming up. This is for, uh, NOACA who did a study on I-71. That meeting is June 23rd. So next week I'm gonna be there. Um, you know, they've done a lot of studies on whether or not we need an interchange.

[00:05:38] The most recent, uh, talk of this was at Boston and, um, 71. And that was, uh, fought hard by, uh, Brunswick residents and eventually went away. So NOACA did a study looking at a much broader area to see what could be done. Um, and this is gonna, this is, uh, what they found out. And, uh, hopefully it's widened how road.

[00:06:07] Uh, that would be a great first step, um, for that traffic in that area. But, uh. I don't think the traffic is so bad there, but when there's mail trucks or garbage trucks or gun drivers, then it becomes a problem. Mm-hmm. And the precinct thing, then I think that adding an extra line. Yeah. Yeah, don't forget those trash trucks. Holy cow.

[00:06:38] Uh, next up. Oh, and that's at the, um, Strongsville Rec Center. I should mention that. Uh, next up, the city of Brunswick is in search for a new city manager and safety director. City manager and safety director Carl DeForest has officially announced his anticipated retirement for sometime next year. Uh, he oversees everything that goes on in the city.

[00:07:04] Uh, police, fire, streets, buildings, zoning, legal. Um, so he'd like, um, the manager in charge of all that. Many, many hats. Uh, so it takes a long time to find a replacement. So they are currently searching. You can go to BrunswickOH.us to find out more information on that position, um, and what that entails.

[00:07:34] You've got the community-wide garage sale coming up this weekend starting on Thursday, the 17th. Tomorrow. Right. Um, runs through Saturday and Lucas has put together a list of everyone who participated. Well, Kimberly made the list. I just made the list. Kimberly made the list. You made the, the map. The map. What did you do to my phone?

[00:08:04] So when you click on the map, it's a Google map that will add, uh, all of the, all of the garage sales to your, to your Google map. So there's 65 pins that it adds to your map. And when you click on them, it, uh, tells you which each one offers based on what, uh, those residents told us. Um, and I, I very nerdily made this thing and it believes depends on your thing. You have to remove it.

[00:08:32] Um, but once the event is over, I can remove it. Um, once I delete the file. Yeah, otherwise I might be randomly showing up in those houses. But yeah, it is. I actually need to go. It's a little invasive, but, uh, if you're not a nerd, if you're a nerd and you know how to, uh, go into maps and go into your settings and then toggle on and off various maps that you may have set up, you can remove it that way as well. Or if you married a nerd. Yeah.

[00:08:59] Or, or yeah, find your local nerd to help you out, um, with that. Moving right along is, um, and I didn't know what this was, but it's Party in the Upside Down. Oh, this is Stranger Things. I guess so. It's at the Brunswick Community Library. It is from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 18th.

[00:09:26] Uh, teens grades 6 to 12 celebrate Stranger Things with trivia, snacks, crafts, and a photo opportunity. Dress as a character and party with other fans. Uh, you register at the Medina County District Library dot info backslash upside down. We didn't watch that show, but I know our girls. Yeah. Yeah, it's very popular. So, and that's a free event. Um, something worth checking out.

[00:09:59] Uh, cake painting class over at Market 42. This is, uh, June 17th at 6 p.m. It's $35. It includes a 4 inch to 5 inch pre-stacked cake, lightly frosted and ready to decorate. Frosting paint palette with a variety of colors and food safe brushes for decorating. It does. Uh, sorted sprinkles and simple embellishments also. Mini spatula for smoothing and texture with a cake board and take home box.

[00:10:29] So, if you're an artist and you love cake, this one's for you. Trivia night at the backyard every Thursday, uh, starting at 6 15. Um, they do the Quizzard. Mm-hmm. Yeah, right? Yep. Which I like because that's the one you use your phone on. Right? Yeah. Okay. And you, or maybe I'm wrong. I think you might be wrong. It's mine. But that's okay.

[00:11:00] I thought it was the one that you... I don't think Quizzard... Okay, maybe I'm wrong. Yeah. I do like the ones that use some sort of device that you can't cheat because I can't stand going to trivia nights and they give you all the time and people are using their phones and... Yeah. So, if you go, if you've been to that one, remind us if that one has the phone or does not have the phone. Yeah.

[00:11:26] Also, that evening is $3 off burgers and happy hour three to six with half-priced apps and drink specials leading right into the trivia. Uh, like she said, the trivia begins at 6 15 PM. So, come early and grab a table. It's free to play and, uh, win prizes and bragging rights. Is it outside? Do they do it inside? Uh, the times that we've gone, they did it inside, but it's probably weather permitting. They might do it outside there too. Oh yeah, we did. Mm-hmm. So, maybe it is weather permitting. Yeah.

[00:12:00] Up next, we have, uh, Boozy Bingo at Market 42. This one's tomorrow night at 6 30 PM. It's $7 to play, $10 at the door. Seating is first come, first serve. Arrive by 6 30. The first balls drop at 7 PM. And, uh, this is over at Market 42 at McGinty's Pub. I've done that one before. And they have the boards that they give you that have the little slickers so that you're

[00:12:26] not like finding stampers and remembering which number, well, I don't remember, but it's just a little easier to work with additional bingo dabbers. Yeah, yeah. And this one's exciting without the graphic. I don't know where the graphic difference appeared to, but it is the Grand Celebration Ribbing Cutting over at New Mega Donut Land. Which we got to go to today. I've got my Donut Land sticker on.

[00:13:09] Uh-huh. Vintage Donut Land. Vintage Donut Land. Yeah. And what they could do in that space was amazing. Mm-hmm. I mean, I, I really couldn't have pictured it without her taking us back there and showing us how everything's done and seeing this new facility. They're just gonna do amazing. Mm-hmm. Very, very happy for them. Yeah. Yeah. Having the space to move around. Well, we would, when we did the, uh, the tour of the small one, we were in everyone's way. Everyone's.

[00:13:38] Uh, we, we didn't know where to stand. People were. And they all knew what to do, but we did not. Right. Um, you know, the supplies they kept, uh, you know, in the old place were minimal because, you know, they had to get orders every couple of days because there was nowhere to keep it. In the new place, they have pallets and I'm talking, um, stacked four feet high of flour. The garage door in the back so they can just drive the pallet right in. Another pallet stacked four feet high of sugar.

[00:14:06] Um, you know, and they got, they just have a lot more space in the new place. And dual registers to get you in and out quicker. Uh, so you'll have the opportunity to check that out as a community and, uh, A cute counter seating. You can enjoy your. Yeah. Yeah. Really, really amazing. All right. We have a sip and create plant beaded sun catcher at the grounded bean.

[00:14:36] Uh, tickets include all supplies and instructions. Plus your first beverage. Uh, this is June 19th at 6 PM where you can make a, planter beaded sun catcher. Thanks cute. It's really cute. Yeah. Do that. You don't like my wind chime windmill out of here. It's cute. It's the first I'm hearing. I'm sorry that it broke.

[00:15:04] Ah, in the heartland, the Michael Stanley band tribute is playing over at. Mapleside. This is. Friday 6 PM till 10 PM. The gates open at six. Um, super pass holders can come in at 545. The concert show time is 7 PM till 10 PM. Uh, no outside food, coolers, beverages.

[00:15:30] Uh, they have that on site for purchase through their food trucks and local vendors. Enjoy the stunning hilltop views of the Valley and, uh, craft beer, wine, and cocktails are available for purchase. So you can spread out your blanket and grab some food and drink. Uh, let the music, enjoy the music. And this is part of their summer concert series. You know, we're not really concert goers. Right.

[00:15:54] You and I, but I have enjoyed going there with friends and sitting just enough far away so that you can have a conversation but still hear the music and see the views. And it's just kind of a vibe to be there even if you're not there specifically for that band or type of music. Agreed. It's just a time and something nice to do outside. Sure is. Uh, another one going on is Charles Gile and the ghost band on the secret patio. Not the secret patio.

[00:16:24] It's the secret at center's patio. I guess you call it the secret patio. Anyways, that's Friday, 7 PM till 10 PM. Um, and it's Charles Gile and his ghost band. Another band, uh, third monkey backed by popular demand at Amy's Arbors. Uh, that's going to be Friday, June 19th.

[00:16:50] Um, they take the stage at 7 PM. Right. Oh, where's that? Yeah. Yeah. You see this, this one? I did. Okay. Somebody comment. What, what is love Island? I don't, I've seen so many people even just recently that they watch it or their kids watch it or not like kids, but like teenagers, like young adults.

[00:17:19] I don't really even know what it is or, but it's apparently a big, big thing. Big enough to be, uh, showing on Friday nights at 8 30 PM till 10 30 PM over at Bianca's. They have a theme cocktails and, uh, you can come a little early and grab some dinner. Tell us, are we missing out? Like, should we be watching this? Do we need, do we need love Island in our life?

[00:17:47] Uh, here's something I won't be doing intro to rock climbing 9 AM till 11 30 AM over at top of the ledges at Hinkley Metro Park reservation. Um, you can go onto their website and reserve a spot. This is, um, 9 AM June 20th. About Halloween already? We are.

[00:18:16] I think it's, is it halfway? Summer ween. Summer ween. Summer ween. But, uh, it's all about Halloween at Summer ween. It's has Halloween fun filled vendor event at fair trade market. Um, this is Saturday 10 AM till 3 PM. It's, uh, be able to check out all kinds of Halloween type vendor stuff.

[00:18:40] Um, it's one day only and, um, you'll receive a special treat from chill out ice, which is also in that building now. I haven't tried it yet, but I would like to, I would like to know what to try. So if somebody can recommend what they've tried from there. Yeah. Up next we have mats and mimosas at market 42. This is Saturday at 11 AM till noon.

[00:19:08] And, uh, it's a 50 minute free class. Um, and McGinty's has, uh, $5 mimosas for participants to sweeten the pot. I do not. I do not, but thank you for always asking. Uh, also going on Saturday. Uh, and if I was a kid, this was something I'd be doing. The eighth annual kids fishing derby over at Willow Lake park.

[00:19:38] It, uh, sign up starts at noon in the main pavilion rules and safety meeting at 12 45. And then you start casting at 1 PM. Uh, and then there is live music afterwards by whiskey bound. And that is at 7 PM till 11 PM. And they have a whole separate lake for fishing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The one we showed earlier, there's no fish in there. Well, I assume there's not, but maybe there is.

[00:20:07] Probably not. I mean, no, it's a chlorinated concrete. I call, I almost call it a pool. Yeah. I don't want people to go there and go, this is not a pool. Uh, this one's over at ignite brewing company. It is Saturday, 7 PM till 9 PM. It's Disney trivia night. And he'd be pretty good at that one. Wouldn't you? Um, test your knowledge of classic movies, princesses, heroes, and villains.

[00:20:35] Free to play prizes for top teams and plenty of drinks to enjoy while you compete. This one's hosted by sparkle live trivia. There's not, you'd see it here or I know. I know. Tell me if you want me to go. That's it. Oh, just have a look. Yeah. It's just us.

[00:21:05] Just us talking to each other. Up next is grunge DNA returns to the backyard in Brunswick on the outdoor patio show. This is Saturday, 7 PM till 10 PM. So you have all kinds of things to do on Saturday. Yeah. Here's another one. Off the radio at Manzo sports and spirits plays at 8 30 PM. Uh, 65 pro road, never cover charge over at Manzo's and it's got delicious booze. Delicious booze.

[00:21:44] This is how you know you're getting into summer. The farmer's market is back at market 42. They'll have an outdoor, they'll use their outdoor patio to have vendors and whatnot. This is 11 AM till 4 PM on Sunday, the 21st. Excited for that.

[00:22:06] And, uh, sometime next week on Tuesday, June 23rd from 6 PM till 7 30 is the illuminated lettering, um, workshop. You can create glowing light filled illuminated lettering in this two part workshop, learn the history and simple techniques for adding metallic accents, bold colors and decorative details to letters and words. Supplies and instructions are included. And, uh, you'll leave with a new skill and a finished piece, ready to display. And it's free.

[00:22:36] And it's free. If it's free, it's for me. Yeah. I believe that is, uh, take a look here. Oh, that's light and art studio. 4195 center. We're owed at 4196 center road, but, uh, find them on Facebook and, uh, register for that. 5196 center. This one's an important one.

[00:23:04] I think anybody who owns an e-bike with children or kids riding these things needs to visit this, uh, bike workshop where they're going to talk about laws and, uh, answer some questions. They'll have some e-bikes to test ride. So if you don't own an e-bike and are thinking about it, this is something for you. It's Wednesday, June 24th at 6 PM till 8 PM. Um, there's been a lot of posts in the group about, um, dangerous riding.

[00:23:32] You know, I, I think it's great that, uh, the technology has advanced and kids aren't riding their regular bicycle. I had mopeds, me and my buddy, my friends had mopeds. We drove around Brunswick like, like the moped gang. Um, you know, so this is a more affordable, easier option. Um, love that kids are getting outside like that. You know, they're, they're hanging out with other kids that are doing it too, but being even in our own neighborhood,

[00:24:01] uh, just ended up on the seat the other day. And I'm not saying that stuff didn't happen when we were kids, but it just, no. At least he had his helmet on. He did have a helmet on. Yeah. This is true. Ah, that's it. That's all we have. Yeah. Well, thanks for enjoying episode 148 with me and, um, anything else? All right. Take care of Brunswick.

[00:24:31] Bye. Bye.
