[00:00:00] Welcome to The Brunswick Group Therapy Podcast with Lucas and Kimberly.

[00:00:10] Here we go. Episode 55, June 7th.

[00:00:13] Wow. Already? Yeah. Seventh of June already.

[00:00:17] That's crazy. Well, we kick it off with some big news.

[00:00:20] We've got a lot of stuff to talk about.

[00:00:21] Oh, this is going to be like a two hour episode.

[00:00:23] So just saying that time,

[00:00:27] we're going to take a nap and come back halfway through it.

[00:00:28] But anyway, let's kick it off, though.

[00:00:30] Congratulations to the Brunswick Valkyries Girls Rugby Club.

[00:00:34] Woohoo! Very nice, very nice. State champs.

[00:00:38] Yep. Learning the competitive club girls

[00:00:41] state championship this past weekend.

[00:00:44] And high school student Sarah King was awarded the player of the match.

[00:00:49] Wow. Very nice.

[00:00:50] Once you know all the rules of that sport, it's really fun to watch.

[00:00:53] It is. Yeah, it is.

[00:00:55] My daughter played for a little bit, so pretty brutal.

[00:00:58] We only ended up in the ER once while she was playing.

[00:01:02] This is exciting.

[00:01:03] You got a couple of days left on the flavor of the week.

[00:01:06] Finally, when it gets me excited.

[00:01:08] Coffee cream.

[00:01:09] So if you like coffee and you like donuts, you can eat your coffee.

[00:01:15] I think what they have before that strawberries and cream and then peaches.

[00:01:18] Peaches. There was an orange one one week.

[00:01:21] And there was so this one is by far.

[00:01:23] Yeah. And that goes through Sunday.

[00:01:25] So you got a couple of days still.

[00:01:27] Speaking of coffee.

[00:01:28] You like that, huh?

[00:01:29] Look at that mug for you.

[00:01:33] Oh, my gosh.

[00:01:34] Shout out to Megan who made me that cup.

[00:01:36] I saw it and I said, oh, I need somebody to make me this.

[00:01:39] And she's like, I can do it.

[00:01:40] So I'm trying to spread the love.

[00:01:41] We've got a lot of talented moms out there

[00:01:44] that have the ability to do stuff like this.

[00:01:47] So, you know, I pretend coffee helps.

[00:01:50] But speaking of which, I saw a mug, a cup at Volunteers of America.

[00:01:54] I just had to get you.

[00:01:56] You did. It's in the other room.

[00:01:57] It says the housewives of Brunswick.

[00:02:00] Oh, thank you.

[00:02:03] I'm going to start a trend now between my that one and the next one.

[00:02:07] So what else we got?

[00:02:08] We got the Brunswick Hills firefighters had a trustee meeting

[00:02:12] and they recognized some great achievements.

[00:02:14] I couldn't believe that half of their department has 10 years or more of service.

[00:02:18] They got a couple that have over 30 years.

[00:02:21] They got five or six that have over 20 years

[00:02:24] and then three or four that have over 15 years.

[00:02:26] It's just a lot of tenure in the Brunswick Hills Fire Department.

[00:02:29] It must be a great place to work and have a career.

[00:02:33] So that's really nice knowing that we're being protected.

[00:02:36] And they'll go wherever, you know, they're not just Brunswick Hills.

[00:02:38] Sometimes they come to Brunswick if the Brunswick there's need in Brunswick

[00:02:42] called mutual aid, they'll go as needed.

[00:02:44] So it's nice knowing that people with that much experience is.

[00:02:48] Yeah, well, speaking of Brunswick Hills Fire Department, too,

[00:02:52] don't forget their junior fire academy.

[00:02:54] They're still taking registrations for that.

[00:02:56] So if you're between the ages of 12 and 18,

[00:02:59] reach out to I think it's Lieutenant Pavel.

[00:03:03] I think that's Andy's rank.

[00:03:05] But anyway, just go to their Facebook page and check it out.

[00:03:08] Very cool. I saw this.

[00:03:09] I thought it was pretty cool that over the summer kids can practice

[00:03:12] their reading skills with the library staff at Reading Buddies

[00:03:16] held right here at the Brunswick Library every Friday in June, July

[00:03:19] and August until the school begins.

[00:03:21] It's for grades kindergarten through five from two to three p.m.

[00:03:24] They can practice reading out loud or in person or both and

[00:03:28] have somebody to read to. That's pretty cool.

[00:03:30] Yeah. So you need a time slot for that.

[00:03:32] So give them a call at three three two seven three four one five.

[00:03:36] Got a couple of businesses that are near opening or or now open.

[00:03:40] Let's talk a little bit about them.

[00:03:42] Yeah, I'm beaten.

[00:03:42] Polyis has put out their schedule for their transitioning to their new location.

[00:03:46] So check out their Facebook page.

[00:03:49] They're going to be moving over and then reopening.

[00:03:52] But they're still, you know, doing business and taking consignment,

[00:03:56] I guess is the word. Is it consignment? Yep.

[00:03:58] So then they're going to be closed around the holiday, July 4th holiday

[00:04:01] and then reopen grand opening.

[00:04:03] Looks like the first week of July, July 7th, the week of July 7th.

[00:04:07] Yeah, that's exciting.

[00:04:08] I saw their new sign right next to post office.

[00:04:11] Yeah. And that little plaza next to it.

[00:04:13] So congratulations, Renee.

[00:04:15] Got a lot of work ahead of you, I'm sure.

[00:04:17] But we're excited for you.

[00:04:18] Yeah. Another one that just opened up this past week is Equine Essentials.

[00:04:22] I don't have a horse, but seems like they're doing very well.

[00:04:26] There was a picture of a horse out front in a trailer

[00:04:29] kind of waiting for its new gear to come out the door.

[00:04:32] That's very cool.

[00:04:33] Yeah, I don't think you could bring the horses into the store

[00:04:35] like you can at Pet Supplies Plus.

[00:04:37] I mean, and that's you know, there were some chit chat about, hey,

[00:04:40] you know, why do we need this kind of a store?

[00:04:43] Well, it's centrally located by the highway and there's a huge horse.

[00:04:47] What is it called?

[00:04:48] Contingency, I guess, in the Hinkley area, you know, in Richfield and stuff.

[00:04:52] So not, you know, nearby.

[00:04:53] So welcome Equine Essentials.

[00:04:56] And good luck.

[00:04:58] Yeah. Another place that opened up recently, Taste of Summer

[00:05:01] is open for the season seven days a week now.

[00:05:04] They have a lot of plants and flowers available.

[00:05:07] No fresh food or fruit yet, but they have a plan to have a farmers

[00:05:10] market and event coming up soon.

[00:05:13] So check them out.

[00:05:14] They still have gifts and stuff and all those great flowers.

[00:05:17] Unique stuff that you can't find anywhere else.

[00:05:19] So make sure you check them out.

[00:05:20] She was one of our first interviews in our interview about this time last year.

[00:05:24] Yeah, yep. Yes, she was.

[00:05:26] All right. What else we got?

[00:05:28] Oh, look, who else is open?

[00:05:30] Island Time Monday through Thursday from four to nine.

[00:05:34] Friday from four to ten and Saturday and Sundays from 12 to 10.

[00:05:38] Well, those are some long hours.

[00:05:40] You have to reach out to them and see what kind of ice cream they have.

[00:05:43] Right. We're on the.

[00:05:45] Speaking of ice cream, the dog house last weekend,

[00:05:49] I think we did we talk about it in the last episode, but 26

[00:05:52] hard ice cream flavors available. Nice.

[00:05:55] They said they were just waiting for kids to get out of school,

[00:05:57] so they had somebody to scoop it. It doesn't scoop itself.

[00:06:01] So now they have 26 hard ice cream.

[00:06:02] So if you're missing Honey Hut, you can head over to the doghouse.

[00:06:06] The dog also has delicious food at a great price.

[00:06:10] All right. What do we got here?

[00:06:12] North Park. Updates.

[00:06:14] Yeah, we reached out to Taylor at the Parks and Rec,

[00:06:17] and she said they're still on schedule for the dredging

[00:06:19] at the end of summer early fall and will be done by 2024.

[00:06:24] It's still waiting for it to dry out.

[00:06:25] So we look forward to having that lake back next year.

[00:06:29] And we're getting a real sense of how many people miss that park.

[00:06:33] You know, it was used a lot.

[00:06:35] A lot. A lot.

[00:06:36] We used to walk around it quite frequently over the spring and summer.

[00:06:41] So speaking of a lot of people, the car show is back.

[00:06:45] It's back in full swing. How exciting is that?

[00:06:48] I think you had something to do with it.

[00:06:49] Well, I mean, I reached out to the property owner.

[00:06:53] She didn't really know that it was to that extent with the property management.

[00:06:57] I don't know if I had anything to do with it,

[00:06:58] but I think it was a good conversation.

[00:07:00] I tried to give you credit for it.

[00:07:01] And, you know, at least she was made aware.

[00:07:04] And it looks like now it's going smooth.

[00:07:06] Yeah, everyone behave yourselves there.

[00:07:08] Speaking of car shows,

[00:07:10] this Saturday from seven to nine p.m.,

[00:07:14] they're going to have a car show at Christie's Cabaret.

[00:07:16] Car show is this good of prizes for first, second and third.

[00:07:20] Is it going to be topless only?

[00:07:23] I don't know.

[00:07:24] Convertible convertibles.

[00:07:25] Get it? A topless car show.

[00:07:27] But, you know, if it's good weather, all those cars from the car show

[00:07:31] at Laurel will just the ones that want to enter in a contest

[00:07:33] will come right up the street. It's kind of genius.

[00:07:35] That is a marketing thing right there.

[00:07:38] I have given you a gift, Christie's, to do a topless car show.

[00:07:42] Your next show should be topless.

[00:07:43] I think they'll have some people that will fight that.

[00:07:47] Oh, come on. No, it's convertibles.

[00:07:50] We're going to get your mind out of the gutter. Come on.

[00:07:52] Boy. Oh, did you have to put this one in here?

[00:07:54] It was fun to watch you get dragged through.

[00:07:57] I thought it was humorous.

[00:07:58] Lucas did the lineup for this week's podcast.

[00:08:02] And I have to admit, I thought my husband tells me

[00:08:05] I have no sense of humor. Yeah.

[00:08:07] I drove past this.

[00:08:07] I was on the phone with him and I chuckled and I went back

[00:08:11] and I took a picture. Right.

[00:08:12] It's not funny that the deer died. No, that's not what we're laughing about.

[00:08:16] We're not laughing that one of God's creatures

[00:08:19] was killed probably by a car.

[00:08:22] But weird twist in this story after I got roasted.

[00:08:28] Hard. Hard.

[00:08:31] Guys know I love you.

[00:08:32] I appreciate that you stand in your ground.

[00:08:33] You didn't delete the photos. I did.

[00:08:33] I didn't do a dirty delete.

[00:08:35] I did edit the top, though, because I didn't want to offend anybody.

[00:08:38] And I was a little, you know, I was just trying to be funny.

[00:08:42] OK. A lot of you didn't find it funny. But

[00:08:46] twist at the end.

[00:08:48] I truly admire the gentleman that lives in that house because he is.

[00:08:54] I forget his name. I think it's Ron.

[00:08:56] He's in a wheelchair.

[00:08:57] And I've never seen a harder working man on two feet

[00:09:00] or on four wheels than that man.

[00:09:03] He is out there working on his fence.

[00:09:05] He's working in his yard and just doesn't.

[00:09:08] I mean, he doesn't let his chair stop him.

[00:09:13] And it's just inspiring.

[00:09:15] So the twist is Ron put that sign there

[00:09:19] and he did it with good intentions.

[00:09:22] So yeah, when it was fresh, maybe.

[00:09:25] I don't know.

[00:09:25] You know, I don't hunt or know about processing deer.

[00:09:29] There's probably a certain time after gets hit.

[00:09:31] Yeah. And he said it was there.

[00:09:32] I thought it was there from Thursday.

[00:09:34] I remember it being there.

[00:09:35] It seemed like it was there for a long time because it's right by my house.

[00:09:37] But he said it was only there from Saturday.

[00:09:40] And he did call it in and they said it would have to wait

[00:09:43] until Mike Callum came in the the animal warden on.

[00:09:46] Speaking of which, you know, him so loading it up.

[00:09:50] I told my husband, I said nothing can happen in this town without people.

[00:09:54] Yeah, I appreciate the Brunswick paparazzi.

[00:09:58] I'm telling you, it's all these videos and images for us.

[00:10:02] Good stuff anyway.

[00:10:04] So all right.

[00:10:05] So, yes, I got roasted.

[00:10:08] You get a burger named after you.

[00:10:10] I get lynched.

[00:10:11] OK, but anyway, so tell us about your.

[00:10:14] Yeah. So Niners Diner.

[00:10:16] I posted that I wanted a garlic mushroom Swiss burger in the group.

[00:10:20] Said who has the best one?

[00:10:22] Nobody had had ideas and suggestions, but nobody was like

[00:10:25] they have a garlic mushroom Swiss burger.

[00:10:28] And I said emphasis on garlic and nobody really came to the call.

[00:10:32] But Ed over at Niners Diner said he would make me one a couple of weeks later.

[00:10:35] He said it's ready.

[00:10:37] We went up there and tried it out.

[00:10:38] And boy, is it amazing.

[00:10:40] It was very good. Very good.

[00:10:43] Quick description.

[00:10:44] It was two juicy smash burgers topped with melted Swiss cheese,

[00:10:48] savory garlic mushrooms, creamy garlic sauce

[00:10:51] and a rich garlic cream cheese spread.

[00:10:54] And I don't think I've ever had cream cheese on a burger before.

[00:10:58] But the gooeyness and the warm, it was just absolutely amazing.

[00:11:02] The melted cheese.

[00:11:03] And then it was all served between a buttery toasted Texas toast.

[00:11:07] So it was like garlic toast with all the garlic in there.

[00:11:10] You had one. I had mine on a brioche bun.

[00:11:12] Yeah. But I think I think you did a disservice to that.

[00:11:17] I think it really needs to be on the Texas toast.

[00:11:18] But and I think they they weren't ready for the response

[00:11:23] that they got because some people went in and were like,

[00:11:25] we want the garlic mushroom burger.

[00:11:27] And he's like, we don't have it yet.

[00:11:28] So they do know.

[00:11:30] Yeah. No, no, they're good now.

[00:11:31] So somebody had over there.

[00:11:33] You can even go to the Wadsworth one and get it.

[00:11:34] I saw that they posted on the Wadsworth. Really?

[00:11:37] So I'm sure those you have made it big time.

[00:11:39] Sure, those people of Wadsworth are like, who is Merkel?

[00:11:42] And what's the Merkel burger?

[00:11:43] I think we probably think it's the chancellor of Germany.

[00:11:46] We need to renegotiate our contract on that.

[00:11:49] Man, I'm probably going up there next week again for another another one.

[00:11:53] Yeah, yeah.

[00:11:55] But thanks, Ed, over at Niners

[00:11:58] for coming through and filling my craving.

[00:12:00] Very nice. Very nice.

[00:12:02] So this week, we also recognized the anniversary of the accident

[00:12:07] on Boston Road that took the lives of the children the night before commencement.

[00:12:11] Out of that came the Brunswick Blue Pride Foundation,

[00:12:14] which is now in its 12th year of giving out scholarships.

[00:12:17] And so I think they're set to do a couple more years

[00:12:22] of that in the in the children's honor.

[00:12:24] But at least one of the parents commented that she was grateful for Julie's post

[00:12:28] there and, you know, Julie would like to see something done on that day every year.

[00:12:33] Who knows? Maybe she'll make something happen.

[00:12:35] Yeah, we could help her out with that. Yep.

[00:12:36] And that's all we got. Let's go to Roger over at Hounstown.

[00:12:40] Hey, guys, it's Roger at Hounstown. Happy Friday.

[00:12:43] It's actually our anniversary week.

[00:12:46] Our two year anniversary is tomorrow, Saturday, June 8th.

[00:12:49] So we've had a busy week of different festivities here.

[00:12:52] And so ended up not bringing in a dog from Bria Animal Rescue this week.

[00:12:55] But if anybody is interested in adopting any dogs or cats,

[00:12:59] please go to the Bria Animal Rescue site and you can see a list of

[00:13:03] and pictures of all of the dogs and cats that are available.

[00:13:05] Also reference their website as they have different hours throughout the weekend

[00:13:10] that they're open so you could go in and check out some of the dogs.

[00:13:13] And then I'll be back at you next week with a update on our newest dog

[00:13:17] that we bring in for the week to hang out with us.

[00:13:19] Also do keep in mind if anybody is in need of doggy daycare or overnight

[00:13:24] boarding while they go out of town this summer, that's what we do here.

[00:13:27] They just have to call us up to set up a free evaluation.

[00:13:30] And we also give every new pet parent a free first day for their first

[00:13:34] day here at Hounstown. So I hope everybody has a great weekend

[00:13:38] and we will catch up with you next week. Talk to you soon.

[00:13:41] All right. We're back.

[00:13:42] Let's talk about some of the events going on this week in the two and two.

[00:13:46] This is exciting. I'm excited for this.

[00:13:48] My daughter got a bracelet from there last year and she wants to go back

[00:13:52] and get a similar one. So she's hoping that stand will still be there.

[00:13:56] She's been waiting all winter for the Brunswick Farmers Market

[00:13:59] at Heritage Farm to open back up.

[00:14:02] It's opening up June 9th.

[00:14:04] That's this Sunday with some great places set up, including

[00:14:08] Kathy's Sweet Shop with delicious baked goods.

[00:14:11] Looks like it's from 10 to two. And if you haven't been,

[00:14:14] yeah, if you haven't been, it's a good time.

[00:14:16] Free. You just park, you walk around a little bit, you buy or don't buy.

[00:14:20] It's a lot of great stuff. You got to buy, support local.

[00:14:22] A lot of great opportunities to get some local stuff.

[00:14:26] What else other events we got going on?

[00:14:27] Looks like superheroes are coming.

[00:14:29] So superhero party on the 15th,

[00:14:33] it looks like featuring Spider-Man and Captain America.

[00:14:37] And that is going to be.

[00:14:40] It's at the Tangled Vine.

[00:14:41] At the Tangled Vine, sorry, with Northeast Ohio Creatives.

[00:14:45] That's probably where the superheroes are from.

[00:14:47] So if you're interested in that, tickets are available.

[00:14:51] Go to Tangled Vine Facebook page.

[00:14:54] Looks like a couple hundred people replied.

[00:14:56] So I would probably they said they were interested.

[00:14:59] So I would hurry up and do that.

[00:15:01] And if you would rather be hanging out with Cinderella and Belle,

[00:15:05] you can do that tomorrow from 10 to two.

[00:15:08] It's a tea party with Cinderella and Belle at the Tangled Vine.

[00:15:13] So tickets may still be available.

[00:15:16] Look at that. Does that say over a thousand people?

[00:15:20] It says over a thousand people responded.

[00:15:22] Holy hack.

[00:15:23] I don't know how many of them bought tickets, but I don't know.

[00:15:26] A thousand people were interested.

[00:15:27] Yeah. So that is we know they can't get a thousand people in there.

[00:15:32] So now check and see if tickets are still available.

[00:15:36] All right. What else we got?

[00:15:37] We got a play date for incoming kindergartners at Nura Park.

[00:15:41] It's June 12th from four to six p.m.

[00:15:44] that is put on by the Ohio State Parent Mentor Program.

[00:15:48] It's for children with disabilities who provide free peer to peer

[00:15:51] support to families of children with disabilities.

[00:15:54] So that's at Nura Park, June 12th, four to six p.m.

[00:15:58] I'm sure any kindergartner.

[00:15:59] But that's open to anybody.

[00:16:00] Yeah. Incoming kindergartners are welcome.

[00:16:03] Kind of a little meet and greet to get to know

[00:16:05] that's kind of some other parents going through the same things you are.

[00:16:08] Ronswick Skate Station has a huge list of activities.

[00:16:12] Summer schedule that's kicked off already into gear,

[00:16:15] and they've got something every day of the week.

[00:16:18] So here's a little sneak peek about that.

[00:16:20] Closed. Oh, sorry.

[00:16:22] Almost every day of the week.

[00:16:25] Still a great value.

[00:16:27] Skate rentals are two dollars for quads, four dollars for inline.

[00:16:31] Join one of those skating sessions for as little as five dollars.

[00:16:33] So for nine bucks, you can skate for, you know, some of these go

[00:16:38] three hours. Nice. Yeah.

[00:16:40] Very nice. Here's one that you're probably pretty excited about.

[00:16:43] I am kind of excited.

[00:16:45] I think go the last couple of times, though, like when they're here

[00:16:48] all the time, then I don't.

[00:16:49] It seems like it's always on a Sunday.

[00:16:51] Can we get a can we get a Wednesday or something?

[00:16:53] So we'd have to cook like, you know.

[00:16:56] So but if you're in the mood this Sunday, 12 to seven,

[00:17:01] the lobster truck, Cousins Means Lobster is coming back.

[00:17:04] We'll be over in town center in front of Applebee's,

[00:17:08] where they're already always parked.

[00:17:10] Yeah, right by they put up the first watch sign.

[00:17:13] We don't have an opening date, but they're getting close and close.

[00:17:16] And Mission Barbecue sign is up.

[00:17:18] It's kind of hidden behind the tree.

[00:17:20] Yeah. Speaking of which, next week we're going to be talking to them.

[00:17:24] So we're excited about that.

[00:17:26] Get a sneak peek of indoors. Right.

[00:17:28] First ones to go in there.

[00:17:30] They'll be opening up the following week, I believe.

[00:17:32] Yeah, very exciting.

[00:17:34] New month, new calendar.

[00:17:44] Well, just specials every day.

[00:17:45] Yeah. Oh, wait.

[00:17:47] Are they open on Monday? Let's make sure we get there.

[00:17:49] Oh, they are open on Monday. Good.

[00:17:51] I don't want to say they're open every day of the week.

[00:17:53] Their drink of the month is a summertime peach palmer and pink paloma.

[00:17:57] All right. What else we got?

[00:17:59] We got kids bingo this Saturday at one o'clock

[00:18:02] over at Willow Lake Park, what I consider one of Brunswick's hidden gems.

[00:18:10] and then go the heck home at night.

[00:18:12] Go home to your bed.

[00:18:13] Yeah. It's like kids bingo

[00:18:17] during the day tomorrow, the eighth at 1 p.m.

[00:18:19] But then at night they have neon night and karaoke with DJ Big Daddy.

[00:18:24] He's well known around Brunswick.
