Brunswick Council Moves Forward on Park Upgrades and Road Repairs

Brunswick City Council is taking important steps to invest in the community’s infrastructure, with motions on the table to go out to bid for several improvement projects focused on local parks and neighborhood roads.

Upgrades Coming to Mooney and Hopkins Parks

Among the most notable projects is a motion requesting permission to go out to bid for the repaving, asphalt installation, and parking lot expansion at Mooney Park (1980 Windsor Drive) and Hopkins Park (3089 Laurel Road / 1721 Diana Drive). The Brunswick Parks Master Plan identified the current parking conditions at both parks as “poor,” prompting the need for these long-overdue improvements.

Citywide Park Enhancements in the Works

In addition to Mooney and Hopkins, the city is looking to bid out multiple park infrastructure projects, including tennis court resurfacing and expanded parking. These plans will address areas outlined in the Parks Master Plan, which include:

Bridgeport Park – Parking lot and basketball court improvements

Heritage Farm – Completion of the parking lot

Pumpkin Ridge Park – Driveway work and basketball court resurfacing

Rolling Hills Park – Drive repairs, basketball court resurfacing, and tennis court renovation for dual use as tennis and pickleball courts (Note: future costs may include new tennis posts and fencing)

Shenandoah Park – Parking lot and basketball court work

Pepperwood Park – Tennis court renovations to support both tennis and pickleball (Note: future costs may include new tennis posts and fencing)

All of these projects will be funded through the $1.2 million allocated to the Parks City-Wide Capital Improvement Fund, established upon completion of the Parks Master Plan.

Neighborhood Street Repairs on the Horizon

While park improvements are a highlight, the Council is also advancing a motion to go out to bid for the Randall, Sheri, and Rose Roadway Improvements Project, in partnership with Medina County.

This necessary infrastructure project will focus on the rehabilitation, repair, and resurfacing of deteriorated concrete pavement on Randall Drive, Sheri Drive, and Rose Drive. Work will include replacing worn concrete joints, slabs, and curbs, as well as installing a chip seal interlayer and asphalt overlay.

The project will be administered by the Medina County Department of Planning Services and is partially funded by a $156,000 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City of Brunswick will contribute an estimated $322,950 to cover the remaining local construction costs.

Together, these projects mark a significant reinvestment into Brunswick’s parks and streets, directly reflecting the priorities outlined in the city’s master plans and community development goals.
